I'm e-mailing people this song and I'm uploading it all over the internet and this will be no exception. I completed it last night. Fun facts about the song: - If you call my cell phone and get my voicemail (and if you have done so over the last several weeks), you've heard the loop that this song is based on. Through painstaking usage of the most modern technology, it has gone from a looping pedal in Santa Cruz, CA, to an outgoing voicemail message, to the background of... MORE

If you're like me (i.e. you're a musician and you aren't famous but there's a Wikipedia page about you because, well, why not), you should check your Wikipedia page. Mine was flagged with a deletion notice. Reason: I am a "non-notable musician." It's been five days since the message was put up, and it also says that after five days, the article can be deleted without notice if appropriate changes are not made. So what did I do? I added the word "notable" to every single ... MORE

Been a long time since I updated about my own life instead of just writing some kinda review, huh?
Well, get this, I've got a SHOW coming up!
Yeah, a show! It's my music and everything. I'm gonna sing a few songs and it's gonna be golden. I might even have a couple of lovely female backup singers for a minute. Who doesn't want to go see them?
Yes, it's a Sunday night, September 16, at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco (4th and Bryant) - a Sunday night to rememb... MORE

I ain't lyin' - here's the whole album. http://www.designerinteractions.com/logic You can download the whole album song-by-song (9 tracks) plus an .rtf with the lyrics and liner notes, or you can get all of those files in the .zip that is in the directory. I plan to keep this up only for today; this album is getting an official release this year. I'm really proud of this record, and I hope people enjoy it.... MORE

Thanks to the handful of folks who expressed seemingly genuine interest (I never expect much!). This one's for y'all. Press play.

So, I have a show here tomorrow! With this band that I'm in! And also this band, too! And a solo set, by me! And a lecture by this gentleman as well! It's at this time! It costs this much money! If, uh, anyone wants to come... I'm 85% done with a new album. Untitled until the moment it's completed which should be sometime either this Sunday or early next week. It is a proper follow-up to 2005's E.T.R. (Electric 3rd R-Word); it fills in ... MORE

I wanted to be playing drums, because that looked a tad cooler, and I also wanted to be on the streets of Hollywood, but both of those cost "coinz" ... and it WAS animated ... but here this is anyway:
(Also, the shirt says AOA , and I don't know what sort of probably popular pop-punk outfit that is or anything, but there is a band with two members of the Boredoms in it called AOA , so I'm going to pretend it's that.)... MORE

1. Just wrote another article for Six-Reel Shuffle - this one about the much-discussed Pan's Labyrinth and its never-discussed Oscar-nonimated score. (And while you're at it, feel free to read some of the other insightful, occasionally controversial posts by co-authors Kalen E and Jeff GP, including a revelatory look at Miami Vice the movie, and a semi-heated comments discussion about Mr. David Lynch to which you are more than welcome to contribute! If you keep going to ... MORE

Yes, I, too, have been snubbed by the Oscars. You see, I scored a feature in the year 2004, and this movie also featured an original song by me. Long Gone Daddy was its name, and Kalen Egan was its auteur - a then-enfant terrible, if you will, of Santa Cruz, now destined to become an - if you will - enfant terrible of Hollywood any day now. (He is one of the three authors of Six-Reel Shuffle, obviously the most influential blog, about anything, of all time - and I think ... MORE

I welcome the new feature. I have a samba called "Sleeping in Public" on my Juno-award-winning album E.T.R. (Electric 3rd R-Word) (you can hear some of it, and all the rest of the songs, here, and then buy it if you're just feelin' nice and diggin' on it) and here's an alternate version of that song - also in a samba form - called "Sleeping in Private." This is a MISSY ELLIOTT EXCLUSIVE ! Only MOG 's gettin' the goods.... MORE

I am now Spencer Owen of Spencer Owen. Don't fret - I'm still the "Maracatu Atomico" y'all know and love and have no idea how to spell. But my web address had three underscores and an apostrophe, for chrissake - an APOSTROPHE ! http://mog.com/spencer_owen - the new old me.... MORE

Here are pictures from the Bird By Snow & Spencer Owen fall tour, taken on Matt Robison's camera, 95% by Matt Robison (I think it's safe to say that the ones with him in them were taken by either Fletcher or myself).

The photo currently gracing my page was taken by Mr. Robison at Adobe Books; another Robison special is lurking in "more photos" (if you can get to it), in which I have an existential... MORE

http://www.myspace.com/dearbornhouse You can hear a live performance I did on this page right now. It was at the Dearborn House in Seattle, WA, and it was on Friday, October 6. Fletcher sang with me on the choruses. After the third and final chorus, the clearly audible thump is me collapsing to the floor. I also played piano on the Bird By Snow song that's up there (vocals, guitar, autoharp: Fletcher Tucker; quasi-tack piano: me; cabinet grand piano: Matt Robison - yes t... MORE

All I can say is that Spencer blew away a capacity crowd at The Living Room Saturday night in South Berkeley. The man's material is very melodic and musical, while also wide raging in its emotive expression. Highlights are Spencer's vocal performance, which can turn on a dime from choirboy pure to Tarzanian wail, and some pretty fierce melodica playing. Spencer's richly layered songs are true windows into his soul. This is a MUST SEE live performance for anyone who enjoys a... MORE
