It looks like I'm interviewing David Berman of the Silver Jews next week and so I have been spending a good deal of time with his upcoming Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea. My favorite track, and this partly reflects what's been going on in my life the last couple of weeks, is "My Pillow is the Threshhold." It's about dreaming about people you've lost forever, and it's just kind of beautiful.... MORE

Nashville, Tennessee based indie rock husband and wife duo Silver Jews will release their 6th full length album entitled Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea(Drag City) in June, according to a spokesperson for the band.
David & Cassie Berman The album will be the group's follow up to 2005's Tanglewood Numbers, an album which broke the Silver Jews long-standing touring ban. David Berman had long been steadfast in his almost complete refusal to play live, and so surpr... MORE

A new Silver Jews album is an event in my book. It happens about once every three years and I end up looking forward to it for months, like back in high school when everyone knew exactly who there favorite band was. Here are a few things about this upcoming event that are stoking the flames of awesomeness: 1) it's called Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea. 2) Songs titles include "Party Barge" and "Candy Jail" 3) this fantastically ridiculous cover art featuring Babar climbing a c... I am with my S.O. in Buffalo for the summer, using his computer, and am therefore not able to use the mog thingy. I am, however, getting to listen to the rest of Tanglewood Numbers, and I am INTO IT .

I just picked this album up again. I think this is the 4th time I've had this album. I'll try not lose or lend this one. Seemed like a good time to pick it up. This would have to be my favorite Silver Jews record. Two listens and then I'll get into the Motorhead and cheap beer. (queue Unenthusiastic half-assed air guitar solo)... MORE

It's a post about a band that I want to like. I am going through my list and Silver Jews is on it. So, I go to itunes and I see these songs: How Can I Love You If You Won't Lie Down
Sometimes a Pony Gets Depressed
Honk if You're Lonely
and
I'm Going to Love the Hell Out of You And I think to myself this looks very promising. But when I listened to the previews it sounded like somebody's drunk uncle singing to himself in the corner because everyone was ignorin... MORE

First off, I call dibs on using "Punks in the Beerlight" as a band name 10 years from now. This record is really hard to describe. For one who listens casually, much may be lost on initial spins. It's a folk-punk-countrified mess of a record, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. What holds it all together is Dave Berman's oddly engaging lyrics and intruiging delivery. From the opening lines of "Punks in the Beerlight" (where's the paper bag that holds the liquor/... MORE

ashod of panty lionsover the weekend, a dream became true. tis cheesy, but that's the way it went down. i was so floored to hear the silver jews were breaking their decade-plus reputation of not performing live that i bought two tickets to see them in nyc back in dec. unfortunately, i never made it. they finally made their way over to my side of the continent and where i could be easily disappointed i was absolutely not. stephen malkmus opened the show solo-stylee playing three old pavement jams...
