Oh man, I've been wanting to throw this out there for a few days, I'm surprised no one else has. If they did and I missed it, I humbly apologize. "15" Twenty-five the season off dope
Three sheets to the wind like a clothes line rope
He's a spider on the web She's a tiny woman, he could sense
Her developing body was just the beginning
She said is anybody out there She was bruised like a cherry
Ripe as a peach
How could he have known
That she was onl... MORE

These lyrics are strangely comforting to me. Just saying them back to myself while Jenn-eee sings them like some scorned horny little elf just makes me feel all warm inside. Odd. And the grass it was a ticking
and the sun was on the rise
i never felt so wicked
as when i willed our love to die. Thoughts?... MORE

First time to see Rilo Kiley. Loved the way that Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett complement each other. Jenny has such an artistic and free flowing sense with her voice and her arms and her body and how she plays the music. Blake Sennett has the more tightly wound slightly geeky vibe, but truly good geek! They played a nice mix of their newest songs from Under the Blacklight and also some treasures from the past which were great sing along options for the audience. The bes... MORE

Earlier this week, I thought my love for Rilo Kiley couldn't grow any more. Then I saw them for the second time at the Rio, and now I'm more enamored than ever. My pictures turned out shitty, but I don't even care. The whole experience was amazing and I was in the front to experience it all. Blake looked a little annoyed and the Blake/Jenny playfulness was definitely lacking. The band said they really enjoyed Santa Cruz though, which is always nice to hear. For some rea... MORE

www.myspace.com/rilokiley Rilo Kiley’s fourth album, Under the Blacklight pops more noticeably than the previous. Simplistic lyrics repeat, forming hooks elevated by polished (and subsequently produced) instrumentals. Audio elitists may shun Blacklight for these reasons alone, however, as a songwriter, my appreciation for this album seems more inclined. Having experienced some evolutionary growth as an artist, I find maturity in the digestive qu... MORE

I've been reading 'Candy Girl: A Year In The Life Of An Unlikely Stripper' by Diablo Cody, who was just Oscar-nominated for writing 'Juno.' Like 'Juno,' the memoir is slangy, witty fun.
Early on in the book, Cody offers an annotated list of The Ten Best Songs To Strip To. I'm not going to quote all her commentary, but here are the songs:
Any hip-swiveling R&B fuckjam. This category includes The Greatest Stripping Song of All Time: 'Remix To Ignition' by R... MORE

keep art alive; art by lilly piri "and sometimes when you're on
you're really fucking on
and your friends they sing along
and they love you
but the lows are so extreme
that the good seems fucking cheap
and it teases you for weeks in its absence
but you'll fight and you'll make it through
you'll fake it if you have to
and you'll show up for work with a smile
and you'll be better
you'll be smarter
more grown up and a better daughter or son
and a real good fri... MORE

in dreams sometimes i still live in the city, waiting on the platform for the train, snow falling and music swirling into my ears. i live in that place i saw once with the attic loft that no one wanted, a ladder to climb from the apartment i hoped to rent up into that space. i felt like a kid when i climbed up there, painting images of how it would be in the back of my mind, like i would do when my mother and i would haunt open houses in the late seventies. we would both pret... There are so many things I could say about Rilo Kiley. My friend Paul C turned me onto them. I wish I would have listened to his nudges to listen to them earlier...I would have been so hip.

In steep cliffs
with rocks all piled up
mysteries of your passing luck
Ages past
shells and bits of foam
forming new limestone
to give things their turn There are no bad words for the coast today You never knew why you felt so good
in the strangest of places
Like in waiting rooms
and long lines that made you late
and mall parking lots on holidays. There are no bad words for the coast today
when we hold our breath until nothing's left
it all sta... MORE

if you want to find yourself by travelling out west
or if you want to find somebody else that's better
go ahead, go ahead if you want to buy a brand new fancy automobile
or if you want to build a place up in coldwater canyon
go ahead, go ahead, go ahead
i wish you would, go ahead if you want to hold your own hand going up that cliff
or if you want to just hold back cause you ain't up to it
go ahead, go ahead, go ahead
be my guest, go ahead if yo... MORE

I've been unemployed for about two months now, and I must say it's very refreshing. Especially since, prior to this break, I had been working for three years straight, and studying immediately before that for yet another three. In other words, I had been busy-as-hell for a total of six years. Which isn't much, really, the more I think about it. But I am only 23. And six years is, well, almost a quarter of my lifetime. A QUARTER OF MY LIFETIME !? What?! Wo... MORE
