Lucky Review

Artist:
Album:
Fortunately I've been able to see the band play live recently enough to hear several tracks from the new album. It wasn't intentional to review this late, but I've had a really difficult life already so anything new be it untimely or not is a welcome change. This is a guitar driven album with a bus load of instruments worked in to capture melodic changes. Layered vocal harmony is everywhere as well. Track 1 SEE THESE BONES  The song is a great opener and fun to hear. It... MORE

Blog post image preview I always get so spazzily excited to get my Paste Magazine every month or so since they have that nifty music sampler. According to the guys on Sound Opinions music print jounalism has seen better days...so I'd better enjoy this while it lasts! I love the new Nada Surf tune See These Bones. Matthew Caws sounds so mellow and clear. I love his voice. Very Bye, Bye Miss American Pie-esque.

Blog post image preview Any one who listened to the radio at all in the mid to late nineties at least knows who Nada Surf is, but do you remember when you first actually dove into (if you haven’t yet, it’s ok, they’re still together and there is still time) Nada Surf? For me it was in 2003 when my little brother strongly recommended I get a copy of Let Go. When I got the album I laid down in the floor in my studio apartment and closed my eyes and listened. When the layered acoustic chords to ‘... MORE

Doesn't it feel great (thing happened more with discs then with iPods) when you rediscover an old album. You get a new album and play the shit out of it and love it and like anything else you think, "This is so fucking good I may never need to get another one. I might listen to this for the rest of my life." Then, like everything else, it slowly fades away. It slides down the rotation and then one day it is off the list. You might even get upset with yourself that yo... MORE

More striking than apt maybe, but it's a nice lyric. Made a last minute decision to cycle to see Nada Surf play at the Maison Radio France, one of Lenoir's Black Sessions. Radio live transmission.

Oh, sweet sweet nada surf. I've been looking forward to their new album, Lucky, since it was announced last year. Sometime during the fall, they announced two shows for Feb, one at Music Hall of Williamsburg, and the other at Bowery Ballroom. I decided on Williamsburg because of the homey feeling that the show would have, and told my friends about it, so they could decide if they wanted to go as well. Well, the friends never did get their own tickets, so I was on my own... MORE

Get Lucky (no, not the Loverboy album)

My critical faculties are temporarily out of service. They have been completely undone by the new Nada Surf album, Lucky. I think they wanted to tell you something about how you can really forget their annoying hit "Popular" of 12 years ago, and something else about how this is a better Teenage Fanclub record than Teenage Fanclub has ever recorded. (And both I and my critical faculties like Teenage Fanclub a lot.) My critical faculties were trying to get some distanc... MORE

Well. Hello friends. It's been some time since I've posted and I'm just certain you've missed me horribly. Good News! I'm back with prose and pix of my last couple of nights on the Seattle scene. :) So, without further ado.... I give you Acoustic Nada Surf! The Seattle transplants tickled our ears on the 30th at the Triple Door, kicking off a short (but sweet) acoustic tour. I've seen MOGGER Matthew Caws and his band several times but never an acoustic show... MORE

I don't want to be too specific to ruin the album for anyone who hasn't had a listen yet. So here's my vague, rambling, inexpert review of Nada Surf's "Lucky." Anyone who hasn't at least heard "See These Bones" or "I Like What You Say," what have you been doing?? Check them out on their myspace. "Ice On The Wing" has to be one of my favorites. If I saw that song walking down the street, I would rape the pants off it. Yes, it's that good. The album version of "I Like ... MORE

Blog post image preview Indie rockers Nada Surf are heading out on another tour in support of their latest album Lucky. Lucky features Death Cab's Ben Gibbard, Ed Harcourt, John Roderick of the Long Winters, and guitarist Phil Wandscher of Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter. But you'll just have to settle on the Nada Surf boys for the tour. Also tagging along for the ride are openers the Little Ones and What Made Milwaukee Famous. The band are also doing a one-off gig with Superdrag April 11th ... MORE

Blog post image preview ..When I first asked to do the poster for this show, it was because of the band Rogue Wave... I'd been a big fan of the guys from across the Bay (Oakland) for a while... Then I started listening to Nada Surf (hadn't heard them since I got their debut album)... The Weight Is A Gift is a uniformly excellent album that showcases their growth and maturity... While not their best song on the album (probably "Your Legs Grow"), I thought I'd post "In The Mirror," because it's my... MORE

Yes, Nada Surf is gonna release a new album in February, but remember The Proximity Effect ? That album did not perform very well, except overseas and mainly here in France. So for those of you who never listened to it, here is my preferred song on that album, enjoy (well, that one and 6 others...)
