Fortunately I've been able to see the band play live recently enough to hear several tracks from the new album. It wasn't intentional to review this late, but I've had a really difficult life already so anything new be it untimely or not is a welcome change. This is a guitar driven album with a bus load of instruments worked in to capture melodic changes. Layered vocal harmony is everywhere as well. Track 1 SEE THESE BONES The song is a great opener and fun to hear. It... MORE
Doesn't it feel great (thing happened more with discs then with iPods) when you rediscover an old album. You get a new album and play the shit out of it and love it and like anything else you think, "This is so fucking good I may never need to get another one. I might listen to this for the rest of my life." Then, like everything else, it slowly fades away. It slides down the rotation and then one day it is off the list. You might even get upset with yourself that yo... MORE
More striking than apt maybe, but it's a nice lyric.
Made a last minute decision to cycle to see Nada Surf play at the Maison Radio France, one of Lenoir's Black Sessions. Radio live transmission.
Oh, sweet sweet nada surf. I've been looking forward to their new album, Lucky, since it was announced last year. Sometime during the fall, they announced two shows for Feb, one at Music Hall of Williamsburg, and the other at Bowery Ballroom. I decided on Williamsburg because of the homey feeling that the show would have, and told my friends about it, so they could decide if they wanted to go as well. Well, the friends never did get their own tickets, so I was on my own... MORE
My critical faculties are temporarily out of service. They have been completely undone by the new Nada Surf album, Lucky. I think they wanted to tell you something about how you can really forget their annoying hit "Popular" of 12 years ago, and something else about how this is a better Teenage Fanclub record than Teenage Fanclub has ever recorded. (And both I and my critical faculties like Teenage Fanclub a lot.) My critical faculties were trying to get some distanc... MORE
We just received a nice note from Nada Surf's neck of the internet. It seems that their new album Lucky hit the streets and the shelves today and the band will be appearing on the Conan O'Brien show this Thursday. Here is the full message:
Hey All,Happy Tuesday. Nada Surf’s Lucky streets today. Just a quick note to tell you the band will be on Conan O’Brien this Thursday. Additionally, Nada Surf ecard is now live. The video portion of the ecard has a bunch of videos... MORE
Well. Hello friends. It's been some time since I've posted and I'm just certain you've missed me horribly. Good News! I'm back with prose and pix of my last couple of nights on the Seattle scene. :) So, without further ado.... I give you Acoustic Nada Surf! The Seattle transplants tickled our ears on the 30th at the Triple Door, kicking off a short (but sweet) acoustic tour. I've seen MOGGER Matthew Caws and his band several times but never an acoustic show... MORE
I don't want to be too specific to ruin the album for anyone who hasn't had a listen yet. So here's my vague, rambling, inexpert review of Nada Surf's "Lucky." Anyone who hasn't at least heard "See These Bones" or "I Like What You Say," what have you been doing?? Check them out on their myspace. "Ice On The Wing" has to be one of my favorites. If I saw that song walking down the street, I would rape the pants off it. Yes, it's that good. The album version of "I Like ... MORE
Here's a track off the upcoming Nada Surf album, Lucky, due out on Barsuk on Feb. 5.

Yes, Nada Surf is gonna release a new album in February, but remember The Proximity Effect ? That album did not perform very well, except overseas and mainly here in France. So for those of you who never listened to it, here is my preferred song on that album, enjoy (well, that one and 6 others...)
