My Morning Jacket have made it to the big-time. This Saturday, May 10th, 2008, will mark the band's debut performance on Saturday Night Live. If that wasn't enough news to tickle you nose then perhaps the news that the Kentucky alt-rockers will be going on an extensive tour of the U.S., following their summer escapade in Europe is.
I'm listening to the band's new album Evil Urges and am on track 2 "Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Part 1," which doesn't really sound anything... MORE

Jim James and the rest of My Morning Jacket bring da funk. It's such a great thing to see a band grow and evolve, not being afraid to try new things...and never stop rocking!

Last year, at Lollapalooza I was faced with the age old festival dilemma; 2 bands overlapped, both good, both "must see's" at least in your book. Modest Mouse on one side of Grant Park, My Morning Jacket on the other. I went with Modest Mouse. I knew their music better and besides, they were from Issaquah, WA, a town only 10 miles from my house. MMJ I only knew of, although I had heard they were a good show. I wasn't unhappy with my choice even when the others ... MORE

GO TO MY PAGE TO READ THE ENTIRE POST ... as happens here from time to time, it cut off quite a large chunk of it... OK, so here's the deal kiddies. I miss my MOGtiply-ily !!! I miss them something fierce. I keep going over the astounding music we saw this past weekend in the desert of Indio California with palm trees & mountains as a most beautiful backdrop for 3 out of 5 stages. What I find myself coming back to time & again are the hugs, the conve... MORE

I'm only three songs in to my first listen to the upcoming My Morning Jacket album, and so far it's not too bad for a Prince album. Thing is, I don't like Prince. What the hell, guys? EDIT : I take it back, there's a good dose of Mike Mills' REM filler tunes and even a little Bread/Air Supply.... MORE

I wanted to go on record and say that the new My Morning Jacket album, 'Evil Urges' is as good or better than anything they have recorded to date. More mellow as a whole, and the band is even tinkering around with some electronic sounds...but worry not, it is still at heart a rock n roll record, and Jim James has raised the level of his songwriting yet again.
Here is one of my favorites from the album, which hits stores in early June.... MORE

MMJ fans rejoice; they've released a free download off the new album. You can check it out here: http://clicks1.musictoday.com/cts/click?q=1;102725;Z2FMpur2XxGiePO5lXlU3g%3D%3D The track is pretty sick; it reminds me a lot of Yes and Price. Can't wait to see the new live show.... MORE

Evil Urges - No one can say that My Morning Jacket still sounds like My Morning Jacket. The band continues to evolve. The MP3 is available on Pitchfork and Stereogum. I can't wait to hear the rest (Expected release 6/10/2008).

Thanks to NPR , Largehearted Boy and Deaf Indie Elephants, we can listen to some of My Morning Jacket's excellent new songs that were performed live at Austin Music Hall at SXSW . On the new songs Jim James seems to be experimenting with his range on vocals a bit. Here is a live version of the title track off the forthcoming record.... MORE

Many people arrived at the Austin Music Hall, just on the outskirts of downtown, expecting to have some trouble getting into My Morning Jackets anticipated SXSW showcase. Lucky for MMJ fans the newly renovated venue was huge and provided enough elbow room for even dancing.
The band played a 2-hour set, following fellow ATO label mates The Whigs and indie rockers Yo La Tengo.
"A friend once gave me a mixtape with Yo La Tengo on it," frontman Jim James told the ... MORE
