Minus the Bear is a Seattle, Washington-based band with five releases to their credit. Their latest album, Menos el Oso, was released on August 23, 2005 on Suicide Squeeze. The band features ex-members of Botch, Killsadie, and Sharks Keep Moving. Their sound is a combination of Pele-esque guitar-taps and electronics, with sophisticated time signature composition. Minus the Bear's fifth effort, _Planet of Ice_ is even better than their Spanish-self-titled _Menos El Oso_! They keep with the crazy time signatures, often rhythm changes, and provocative lyrics about life in general.
However, as mature as the previous album was, the best thing about them is that they keep expanding on maturity.

1Minus The Bear have a new album out! The short story of MTB is that the core members were all in Hardcore/Jazz bands prior to forming circa 2000/01. Despite that, they came together and made a kick ass Indie Pop/Rock band. That's just my lazy interpretation though, they're sometimes labeled Prog & Math Rock, but it doesn't really matter what people call them until you check out the music. The new album is pretty good. It's firday night, around 10:30 and I've just woken up. What a crazy day. Natuarally, the first thing I do after I get some water is fire up my iTunes. I've been listening to this new Minus the Bear album a lot and I honestly think that I have found one of my favorite albums of the year. The new Iron and Wine was good for a few days, but I it got lost in the shuffle of new music because it just wasn't cutting it for me, hopefully when it comes out I will be ready for it. ... MORE

Every now and again I head over to band's websites who I'm expecting an album from. Tonight I checked Minus the Bear's and their second news post is this: "Hey everyone, we're happy to announce that our new studio album, "Planet of Ice" hits stores August 21st! A new song of Minus The Bears' third full-length Planet Of Ice was released for preview. To check out the track "Throwin' Shapes" Click Here
The album was produced and recorded by the band's ex-keyboard player Matt Bayles and Chris Common at their studio, Red Room, from February to March of 2007.
Planet Of Ice will be released 8/21 on Suicide Squeeze.

The title of this post is something that P.O.S. said before Minus The Bear got on stage at the Tripple Rock friday night.
So one thing is these guys rock to begin with. I had no idea what there live show was going to be like. I have really only been to harder rock concerts. Minus The Bears music is more of a relaxed energy music. Energetic but from a diferent direction. Not really of a "man I want to run up a wall" nature.

so lately ive been taking note to what i resort to in times of trouble, trial, or more specificly, loneliness.... when i used to drink, that was my escape on a daily basis from my problems... but now that i've given that up, i find myself struggling to find a "gettaway"... maybe God doesnt want us to have a gettaway? what if He wants us to find our gettway in Him? its hard following God, but the longterm reward is worth it... and frankly thats all im going to say b/c im ... About how I want my grandchildren to find my music collection and find music that I had growing up. Music that helped me out in the best of times and worst. Hopefully they will find it. there is a mp3 from Minus the Bear's up coming release, Planet of Ice which is due out later this August. wiki reports that the bands ex-keyboarder Matt Bayles produced the album. Bayles is replaced by new keyboardist Alex Rose Dr. L'Ling is a whirling and riffing good track and it has me excited to see how the new album is going to sound. I'm curious, this song has some definetively rocking sections, and some swirling guitar tones from Dave Knudson, sounds alittle different ... MORE
