Martin Denny Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Martin Denny (April 10, 1911 - March 2, 2005) was an American musician. He gained fame as one of the most successful producers of exotica music, a type of big band music with Latin rhythms and overtones of Pacific Ocean culture that found its origins in artists such as Les Baxter, and which is largely scorned by critics despite extreme popularity in the 1950s and 1960s.

I have not been able to find either Elsa or that pervert Elvis despite my search. I have located the whereabouts of the girl from the Midlands who’s name is Tracy. She is quite a sweet thing and in view of my earlier attempts to alert females to the notion of a mass fatality I decided to play it safe and asked her to meet me up on deck by the life boat at 11pm. The girl was clearly excited at the prospect of a late night liaison with such a good looking chap as... MORE

    1. The Shirelles, "Dedicated to the One I Love." The several hit versions of this song are all wonderful. This one, which was actually something of a flop in 1959 but was a hit in a re-release a couple of years later, is a favorite of mine for the way Doris Coley pronounces the word "dedi-KAY-ted." In the absence of a good Shirelles video, the clip is of the Mamas and Papas' version. No one who writes about this one can neglect to mention Ed Ward's phenomenal essay ... MORE

Blog post image preview _Dear Marmaduke_ _Saturday 30th_ _Today I boarded my cruise ship The Ruddy Nerve bound for the Middle East. It is of generous proportions, having learned from my mistakes with previous sea fairing vessels, I have decided to take some luxury in my 3 weeks of travel._ . _Captain Omi Palone introduced himself to me on my arrival, all very present and correct considering my position, he obviously must have recognised my name in the passenger lists. He is a str... MORE

Because life is more than Loud, Young and Snotty... I.e. Turbongro, The Deadboys and The Stooges..... I want to take this moment to talk about the man the legend Martin Denny... Simply put there are times when all I want to hear is some nice soothing lounge music, and few did it better than Martian Denny.... there is a simple magic and bounce to his best work that still has the right swing and passion and drive that the best Rawk'n'Roll provides... When It comes to Instr... MORE

So I got a nice little media mail package today with 5 Martin Denny records in it.
First off, the seller packaged them very nicely - all removed from sleeves and stuff. He also had the sense of humor to bookend the records with other record covers such as a signed copy of "the solo artistry of Robert Hale and Dean Wilder - Songs of Devotion and Praise." Yes, I said 'signed.' I thought I was going to have a duplicate copy of Quiet Village, but the one I got in the mail ... MORE
