In conjunction with the April release of Saturdays=Youth, the french electro-ambient band, consisting of Anthony Gonzalez (and formerly Nicolas Fromageau), gears up for a tour this fall. First started in 2001, M83, named after the galaxy, adopts the "shoegazing" methods of bands like My Bloody Valentine. If you live under a rock as I do, "shoegazing" is a genre that exploded in the late 80's and early 90's and describes the motionless stance that the musicians take on stag... MORE
The new M83 video just came out today. Here is "Kim & Jessie":
The song is off Saturdays=Youth. Again, more on the rock-ish side than the electronic. Do you like this side of M83? Or prefer his older sounds?
For some reason, I thought M83 made electronic music, but this new video for "Graveyard Girl" is not electronic in the slightest. It's indie rock? dream-pop? "Graveyard Girl" is off M83's upcoming album Saturdays = Youth which comes out next week (April 15th).
What genre of music is this exactly?
The title of M83's upcoming new album was revealed today, as well as tour dates in the US. The new album will be called Saturdays = Youth and it is set to be released April 15th on Mute. M83, who is really Anthony Gonzalez, will tour with Morgan Kibby (of Romanovs) providing vocal assistance, the same vocalist featured on Saturdays = Youth. The tour according to Prefix Mag: 05.20 Los Angeles, CA: Echoplex05.21 San Francisco, CA: Great American Music Hall05.23 Portland... MORE
I got wind of the first release off M83's new album Saturday = Youth today, and I have to say I'm in awe once again. It never ceases to amaze me how these guys produce such epic electronica over and over again, without making the genre sound tired or boring. Their tunes just seep into my bones and fill me up with so much emotion. It's great stuff, and this track, Couleurs, is no exception. It actually takes me back to the soundtrack for Assault On Precint 13, the 1976 ... MORE
M83 - Kim and Jesse I’ve gotta say, I’m really warming up to M83’s last record Saturdays=Youth. My initial thoughts were not so into the synthy 80’s throwback. Then a girl named Kim and another named Jesse talked me into it. Here’s M83 (Anthony Gonzalez) on KCRW with Nic Harcourt. Pretty cool to see who plays what live. [...]

I love M83, a beautiful track that for some strange reason, probably my own head, reminds me of airports
Was on Pandora listening to my M83 channel again and this time, a non-album track came up. Until The Night Is Over. Very fresh song with nice piano and vocal harmonies. Wish it would have been on the album actually. I see why though, as it was of a different rhythm than the rest of Before The Dawn Heals Us album.

I would like to know what different people consider selling out. The reason I list M83 is because in the past having your song show up in a TV ad selling anything was considered selling out. I know they're not the only ones and I don't think this is selling out at all. A lot of people are doing it now. Royksopp is another. I am a musician who wants to do this. I would love my music to be in a commercial or video game or movie soundtrack. Almost exclusively!! My que... MORE
