Matt Ward, known by his stage name M. Ward, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who, until Summer 2006 was part of the music scene of Portland, Oregon. He has since relocated to New Hampshire. Ward was previously a member of the band Rodriguez with Kyle Field of Little Wings. The album, Swing Like a Metronome, was released in 2000 and produced by Jason Lytle from Grandaddy. I have loved Zooey Deschanel since her small but memorable part in Almost Famous, her voice a great surprise in the Jon Favreau film Elf.
Here is a track with her and M.Ward. A collaboration that began during filming will be released under She and Him expected this spring,

5I did not have the bucks to continually delve into the new records of 2007. So here are just a few thoughts. I did not have any singular compelling dance or electronic record strike me, which was disappointing. That might explain my increasing fondness for reggae and dub, it was the best place to get that melody and rhythm fix. So obviously without much good electronic I listened to a lot of rock and roll too. One big disappointment for me was the new Ponys' record... MORE

Nothing bad ever happens to me - I'm an incredibly lucky person. I was reminded of this last week when I turned my stereo on and the speakers gave a loud pop and then a long low fizz and nothing else. My receiver is broken. This means nothing, really. It's just equipment, a possession, something I lug around with me every time I move. It's easily replaceable and more than likely easily reparable. Is there anyone out there making music that comes across as authentic as Matt Ward's? Part throw-back, all songwriter, M. makes kind of music that, decades from now, won't show the first signs of aging.

This is a cool cover of the Richard Thompson song, "When I Get To The Border," which first appeared on Richard & Linda Thompson's debut, 1974's I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight.
