This is one of my favorite low albums. More of an e.p. in light of their, usually, hour long releases. It's six songs, 35 or so minutes. The songs range from a string-backed standard Low song, which is quite nice, to a more minimal Kranky-like compositions. The first cut, Will the Night, is rather short with a vocals-as-instrument treatment, very droney. Lot's of guitar noise. Quiet guitar noise, mind you.

Stream the documentary, by Dutch tv/documentary maker David Kleijwegt, here. I found the pacing, the performances and the confessional nature of this portrait of Low (mainly Alan Sparhawk) really engaging. Mimi usually fades to the background unless she's singing in performance. Her candor in this documentary reveals her personality and her qualities that probably keep Sparhawk somewhat grounded. I am so happy that I am finally gong to get to see Low...a band that I had resigned myself to never seeing since they never, ever came to Columbus. They make such beautiful records...i am really curious to see how it translates live...

Music, as usual, as been my saving grace. I am having a great time out here trying to find myself, but I still have bouts of lonliness and...dare I say...home sickness. And I am just not the kinda guy to pick up the phone and chat...I am just not a phone person. But what I can do is listen to music....in my music obsessed mind, each and every great memory I have of my friends and family back in Ohio have a song attached to them. Why did I wait so long to move out west again? Low is one of the bands that I was resigned to never seeing in Ohio. This is why I am so happy to finally have Low tickets in my possession...Sept 29 @ The Troubadour in LA. Of course I have no idea where that is, but i have 2 months to figure it out...

It's been a long time since I've posted anything up here! Hi MOG friends. (Do I still have any MOG friends?) I've been real busy working on the next Roommate album and some other projects. Yes, this Sunday I will be turning the big 20, which isn't as big considering the big 21 is right around the corner after that. The keywords here, though, are "this Sunday." April 8th.
