Lavender Diamond covering Madonna's "Like a Prayer".
I saw Lavender Diamond live last year and they sort of put me off. Actually, they kind of scared me. But this cover is gorgeous. I might have to check out some of their actual songs now.... MORE

Just received an advance of Through the Wilderness: A Tribute to Madonna and, let’s be honest, I am normally not that interested in anything to do with the material girl. But this is pretty cool, a collection of 15 covers by artists including Ariel Pink, Giant Drag, the Tyde and Lavender Diamond. Also in the bonus column, 23% of the proceeds go to Malawi Rising, an African AIDS charity that Madonna supports. Track listing
“La Isla Bonita,” Jonathan Wilson

So I live in the Kalamazoo MI area and often listen to WIDR the local college radio station. Now unlike many other such stations WIDR dose not play any main stream artists or play any commercials. This is nice in many ways first I hear great music at random times of the day/week/month and can hear new artists that in a few years down the road may become famous. I heard this song on Saturday afternoon really liked it. Check out WIDR here at the site Http://www.widr.org/... MORE

4. Here Comes One, by Lavender Diamond
Taken as a whole, this album is a bit thin, but there are some real stand-out tracks. The piano in this one is irresistable to me (ditto the tiny dashes of new wave synth).
Also, "You have opened your heart with your mind"? Some of their songs are so irrationally positive as to verge on Christian radio territory, but this is an upbeat message I can get behind. Love is hard work; opening your mind is good for your emotional heal... MORE

I like plenty of hard music. There's nothing I like better than a few minutes of pogoing around the house to snotty punk songs. And I'm a long-time devotee of The Melvins, who put the slow in hard better than almost anyone. But I also have a side that seems impossible to reconcile with those taste preferences to some people. I've had friends over the years who express befuddlement at my love of The Cure and New Order. What really screws with their heads, though, is my penchan... MORE

yesterday's lunch, stealing the shade of nice healthy oak to take a lil' cat nap for myself.
i put on album 88 to listen to some tunes, but instead, a sweet girl talking about string theory, energy flow, hope for humanity, power of individuality, imposition of life, loving the ground, excitement for renaissance. i listened to "becky" and completely agreed, wishing i could be as articulate and steadfast. she's right, you know. heard of lavender diamond.

Let me just start out by putting my head right in my own guillotine. I really like Lavender Diamond. I like Becky Stark, her cute little roller skates, her child-like lyrics—I have been totally sold on this band since hearing the track “You Broke my Heart” off their first EP “Calvary of Light,” which I played on my way to work every single day for about a month. I also know that I will probably have to fight an urge to disown this music very quickly once “Imagine Our Love” hi... MORE
