lcd soundsystem is known as a euro-dance sounding outfit a la new order or hot chip, but on their new album sound of silver they prove to be more than one-trick ponies. even on their eponymously-titled album from a couple of years ago, there were clear indications that lcd soundsystem's interests stretched beyond the dancefloor. check out this beatlesque number from that self-titled cd, lcd soundsystem. "Dear Prudence," anyone?

It's officially New Year's Eve in my neck of America. It's been quite a year, both for me personally and for music. I've decided not to make a list of the year's best albums this time around, mostly because I suck at making lists. Except playlists. That is a matter of personal pride for me.

Why do we all like lists? It must be how they sum up everything nice and clean, making an easily digestible package of thought. It's sort of the sitcom of writing, but instead of everything being wrapped up nicely in the allotted 30 minutes, it's 10 bullet points. FACT Mag published its Top 100 Tracks of 2007 today. I'm glad they held off until Friday, because it is going to take me all weekend to digest this list. Saw LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire at the Randall's Island ampitheatre in New York City a couple of weeks ago. I didn't realize it at the time, but there were five bands instead of the two mentioned.
The first band sucked badly. There were a band from New Hampshire. The second band was hilarious with a big bald guy with a beer gut as the lead singer. He totally sent up rock star singer personas, strutting around the stage, jumping around, and wrestling with his microphone... MORE

Franz Ferdinand channels early 80's Britpop in this gorgeous cover of LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends. Alex and the boys _really_ need a new album out, or maybe I do. Either way it's long overdue.

As most know "Control" opens next week in NYC. It seems like most music blogs are pushin the Killers cover of "Shadowplay", but I like LCD Soundsystem cover of "No Love Lost" way more. These guys are amazing live. Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem may have been the tour of the year. Enjoy!
