Popmatters has an awesome post up where they ponder the possibilities of Rap Retirements. Aside from the In and out retirements of the likes of Jay-Z, the first crop of Hip Hoppers have yet to hit the retirement age (remember, 70 is the new 50). Anyway, a particularly good excerpt:

When I first caught wind that Kanye ranted on Entertainment Weekly, i assumed they said something really mean about him. It turns out they simply had the audacity to rate his "Glow In The Dark" tour a B+ instead of an A+.... check out what he said on his blog.
"Yo, anybody that's not a fan; don't come to my show. For what?! To try and throw ya'll two cents in? Ya'll rated my album shitty and now ya'll come to the show and give it a B+. What's a B+ mean? I'm an extremist. I

A few months ago, Kanye West posted pictures of he and Beyonce playing connect 4 in Las Vegas, and stated it was one of his favorite games. Well folks, he wasn't lying! This time he's playing against Jonah Hill of "Superbad". I love how he gets up in the middle of the match to pose and posture, I didn't know 'connect 4' was that competitive. If the embedded video below doesn't show, CLICK HERE to watch it on Kanye's blog.

Kanye West and his designer girlfriend Alexis Phifer have called off their engagement. The couple had enjoyed a year and a half relationship before calling it off recently.
"It's always sad when things like this end, and we remain friends,” Phifer tells PEOPLE . "I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavors. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met."
Speaking of future endeavors, Kanye gave us the first official look at his new Nike shoe t... MORE

During Kanye West's show in Sacramento last night, he repeatedly addressed the city of Seattle. After the show a few fans voiced their displeasure on his website, and Kanye responded with this. "I can't believe I bust a spinal tap! It's no excuse for this I wish I could sink in a black whole [sic]. When I said Seattle and there was no crowd response I was up on my spaceship platform thinking damn... I think I just said the wrong city!!!!! I kind of muffled the words so I... MORE

"It's like nothing anybody has ever seen," says a fan that went to Kanye West's Glow "In The Dark" tour opener last night (April 16th) at Seattle's Key Arena. There are muppets and a light show created by the man behind Daft Punk's mind-blowing pyramid tour last summer. And at the center of it all...Mr. West, traveling through space, who never fails to entertain. West performed an eighteen song set in ninety-minutes last night with songs from all three of his albums.

UK's Global Gathering just announced that Kanye West will headline the main stage at his sole outdoor UK appearance this year. Not only will he perform his new Glow In The Dark Show, he'll be joined on stage by various monsters designed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop! To make sure the set is viewed properly, lighting will be done by the same duo who lit up Daft Punk's Pyramid - Martin Phillips and John McGuire! The festival takes place 25-26 July. Kanye's old 'Behind The Beats' mixtape, is available for download over at The Smoking Section . The mixtape was created and released before Kanye West turned into an international superstar, and if you're a new fan of his it should be a really good listen.
The mixtape basically consists of Kanye talking in the "Storytellers" format, and speaking at length about beats/tracks he's crafted for other people. So there are no songs, just talking and beats.... Kanye's very ani... MORE

Today the Chicago Sun-Times spilled the beans on some of the players in the 2008 Lollapalooza line-up. Whether it's true or not, we won't know till Monday when official word hits the streets. Citing inside music sources -- I'm thinking management buddies who could give a rats ass when a line-up is announced -- the newspaper exclusively confirmed that rumored headliners Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails will indeed take the stage.
Also headlining the festival taking place at ... MORE

The title says it all, are there any songs you like but aren't completely sure of the meaning?
The latest for me has been "I Wonder" by Kanye West. After a zillion listens and internet sleuthing I've narrowed it down to a few possibilities. Ultimately I think the lyrics are ambiguous enough to keep anyone from giving an iron clad answer. And just for anyone who may be interested, here's the song Kanye Sampled by Labi Siffre.... good stuff.... MORE

In case you've never been to Kanye West's personal blog, it's safe to say that it may be a little....different from what you expected. He doesn't often blog about rapping, or touring, or recording, he blogs about fashion. He'll rave about a new sweater, or a $10,000 ottoman or something. Today's blog happened to be about a portable fireplace...and the title of the entry was :
"NOT FOR ME BECAUSE I 'M STUPID RICH AND CAN JUST BUILD A FIREPLACE IN MY WALL , BUT IF IT WA... MORE

Early last year, Nike brought together Kanye West, KRS -1, Rakim & Nas together to celebrate the 25th anniversary. Although a billion dollar corporation had a hand in the process, the end result was pure hip hop. You had KRS and Rakim representing 80s rap, Nas holding the 90s down, and Kanye showcasing for today's generation. Everyone ripped the track, the only thing missing was someone to represent for the west coast.
The video was just as good as the song, desp... MORE
