I finally got around to watching Control, the film about the last few years of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis' abbreviated life. Based on the book written by Curtis' widow, Deborah, it was interesting, compelling, and moving. It becomes even more of each when viewed along with the 2008 documentary, Joy Divison, and the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, which touches on the Ian Curtis/Joy Division story in passing. Each film has a different focus and perspective, fo... MORE
The memorial to the Joy Division frontman was taken from a Macclesfield's cemetery reports the BBC. Curtis was 23 when he hanged himself in the kitchen of his Macclesfield home after having viewed Werner Herzog's film Stroszek and listening to Iggy Pop's The Idiot in May 1980, shortly before the band were due to go on tour in the US. He met Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook in 1976 who he would later go on to start Joy Division with. The name "Joy Division" stemmed from t... MORE
Former Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis's headstone was stolen last night from Macclesfield Cemetery in Cheshire, England. The stone, which bore the inscription: "Ian Curtis 18-5-80" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was stolen between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. There are no apparent leads, but officers are asking that if anyone has any information, they should contact them. Joy Division has recently become more well-known and popular due to a biopic about ... MORE

Joy Division's early photographer Anton Corbijn directed the film. Corbijn gives us a straight-no-chaser account of reality as it existed for Curtis. Bleak as the gray skies of Manchester in winter, and suitably shot in black and white. Notably, the screenplay for Control was based on Deborah Curtis's (the singer's wido... MORE
It's been a while since I've posted anything so I chose something special. I recently bought a USB turntable (Stanton T.90) and now I'm dangerous! I've slowly begun converting my vinyl to MP3. I know, sad, but at least I'm ripping at 320kbps. One of my 1st choices of songs was Joy Division's - Love Will Tear Us Apart B-Side Version, because I remember favoring it to the A-Side version. Also, the fact that this song has soooo many different JD versions as it is, I wante... MORE
The Joy Division documentary is out this weekend in the UK and is getting good reviews everywhere;/ /Joy Division**Cert: 15, 93 minsStarring: Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Peter Hook, Ian CurtisYou may feel there isn’t room in your life for another Joy Division film, especially if you thought Control was a tad overrated. This brilliant documentary, though, deserves your time: exceptionally well made, it gives not only the definitive insider account of the band’s b... MORE
I've been listening to Joy Division lately. And by lately I mean not just occasionally, but most of the time. I have a 40 gig IPod, and it's loaded with over 7,000 songs, with a measly 101 songs by Joy Division, yet it's what's been playing in heavy rotation for the last 4 months. No, I'm not depressed. No, I'm not OCD (well, maybe a little). I've just found the IPod a particularily nice way to rediscover music, even if a little out of context. I listened to Joy Divisi... MORE
As I sit here at work... listening to the lovely tunage my ipod shuffles just for me, I am struck by how much I missed you guys !!! I am still recovering, but I am back & ready for action, who's with me ?!? Let's see... during my hiatus, I listened to music sporadically at best, mostly slept & watched movies & slept some more. When I did listen to music, I found even more comfort in the arms of the bands I love. Alice in Chains, sweeter than Rooster stew, Wallflowers... MORE
