Thanks to Mog, Jim and I had a killer time last night seeing Jolie Holland at the very-crowded-but-sweet-crowd at the legendary Fillmore, my most favorite venue in town. We were close up, about 8 layers back. Only good things happen here. Jolie's sound was full, her voice luscious and strong, her musical talents oozing from the piano, the violin, the guitar. So I keep seeing the Jolie Holland contest advertised on here and I keep saying that I'm going to give some of her songs a listen. I finally did today and, I must admit, I'm quite impressed. Jolie Holland is one of my favorite artists. She has the most beautiful voice -- she's been compared to Billie Holiday and kiaren Dalton, but it's a unique voice, truly like no other.
