Actually, sweet isn't a word I'd use to describe Jenny Owen Youngs ... hysterical with her wry sense of humor & askewed-view of the world surrounding her. She's another one with fantastic lyrics & vocally has a Bjork, Erin McKeown-y vibe. But it's her lyrics & witty banter that got me hooked ! I found out a few weeks ago from a friend who is the director at a local art gallery/performance hall that he booked a few artists that are a real gem. He played some of their music for me and I was instantly hooked. There's Jim Bianco from Los Angeles, Jenny Owen Youngs from New Jersey and Tobias Fröberg from Sweden. My latest music blog find is Jenny Owen Youngs. Her sound is kind of a cross between... Amy Millan, Maria Taylor, and Fiona Apple. I'm really digging the track, "Fuck Was I". It's basically an anthem for anyone who's done something stupid in a relationship. "Porchrail" and "From Here" are also great up-beat songs. Jenny Owen Youngs is definately my favourite right now...her voice reminds me almost of a Fiona Apple-esque situation, you have this little young girl with this deep rich voice.it's so inticingthe acoustics are just amazing, and her lyrics say so much...it's more of a real-life, almost rural feel.
