I had another selection for this one, but I love a theme.  Anyway, from an artist most people sadly only know as the guy who sung "Cat's In The Cradle", this song is a bit macabre, funny, tragic, all at the same time.  Add to it Harry Chapins indelible personality and stage pressence, you can almost over look the irony that he died in a car wreck.  I have such high respect for Harry Chapin, if only for the fact that his "Greatest Stories Live" album was played on many a ca... What did you do when you turned 17?

Blog post image preview

Submitted for Random Tuesday, this is a group of Nevada Conservation Corps volunteers, which came up during a Google! search for youth idealism. I'd heard about Harry Chapin's song about the subject, and was about to look for the specific CD that had this track, but found a 3 CD "Greatest Hits Plus" package and found it worth the price just for this song. A salute to those who have found something worth fighting for, no matter what age.

Ode to Metal Wednesday

Blog post image preview If it's Wednesday it must be Metal. OK, I don't have any Metal, Goth, Funk, or Emo, so I'll let Harry Chapin handle the subject. G'day, now what's Thursday's genre?

As I've posted before, I'm new to the whole fatherhood game, but I really do love just about every moment of it. Even at its worst, time seems to just cruise by at two separate but equal speeds. In the worst of times cold molasses, those times are when your kid is sick, crying every couple hours or whatever. than there's flash bulb quick which is when you look back at the past year and feel out of breath at the speed time just flew by at. Anyway, it seems that Dad's ... MORE

Harry......"Keep The Change"

(39)
Harry did so much more than write great songs and perform them live in small venues. He was the man behind the World Hunger movement in the late 60's. Great artist and writer, here is a song that some my never have heard but yet, it's one of his finest.

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree

Just a quick post from a happy mom. I i'med my daughter a few minutes since she wasn't answering her cell phone. Her away message said " "Music is my life support; it's one of the only things in this world that can help me express every possible emotion." Guess I brought her up well :)

Blog post image preview People go on about how sad it is that people like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix were 'taken from us' at such an early age. Let me clear something up... first of all, all these people mentioned brought on their own demise, so I don't feel one bit sorry that they are gone. Talented or not, it was a result of their own fuckuppage that they were 'taken' from us. Some would have us believe that they were taken up off the street by God's own divine ... MORE

Blog post image preview I was 12 years old when I heard my first Harry Chapin song. A budding social justice activist, I was in the midst of locking horns with my 7th grade school principal over a teacher who made a habit of making ugly slurs about AIDS victims. It was the early 80s, needless to say his opinions were more popular than mine, something that even at a young age was reprehensible to me. I was all "us" and "them" over it, and struggling with the budding realization that not all adu... MORE
