Green Day Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Green Day is an American rock band comprising three core members Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Their early releases for independent label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, their major label debut Dookie became a breakout success in 1994 and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. Green Day currently have three ...Read More >

i should be writing my conference reports but instead i'm wasting time like a beast with no name. why does every fourth grader love green day? it doesn't matter if the songs are 10 years old, they still love green day. other hits with the fourth grade include queen, smashmouth, FLO RIDA ! i have a kid who wears an AC/DC shirt all the time. it kills me. there was a girl last year who wore a ramones shirt. she was pretty awesome. and she played the drums and she had a b... Though through the accidents of birth I came only belatedly to the Beatles, even so Paul was my Beatle and I had no heart for John which perhaps was for the good as it saved me the heartbreak of his violent bearing away. I do not say his death for how could such a spirit die. And thanks to Instant Karma: the Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur finally I am coming to know John through his amazing songs, songs as necessary and vital now as almost 50 years ago. He... MORE

Blog post image preview Ever made the same mix for seven people? This happened to me with a Christmas mix I decided to send out as a card one year. But once I got to mix six, iTunes revolted saying I couldn't make another mix using Run DMC 's "Christmas Is," a song I had purchased on the site. Bummer, considering it really was a nice segue to Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree." I thought to myself, "What the heck!" iTunes is controlling my mix-making powers! (Yeah, I was pissed.)... MORE

That title requires a certain level of clarification, and I shall deliver it by regaling you with a story. I was listening to the radio (KROQ in Los Angeles) a few weeks back when they had a segment on which bands do you immediately turn the radio off upon hearing them. I thought it was an interesting topic, although one that could have the hidden agenda of trying to cull the herd of radio play music on the station without upsetting too many fans, but whatever. Any... MORE

There are a couple of newer songs I am listening to right now. One is Green Day's "Working Class Hero" and the other is Sum 41's "Underclass Hero." It strikes me that the names of these songs, both by pop punk rock bands, are so similar. I'm sure Sum 41 would love to be like Green Day, and I wonder whether these bands actually like (or know) each other. I am going to admit that I did not know that "Working Class Hero" was a John Lennon song until I saw the cover of the a... MORE

I found this article really kool. It gives an insight into Green Day's role in the new Simpsons movie to be launched soon!!! and how they created the characters to be based on the green day members!!... Here's what we do know about Green Day's cameo in the upcoming "The Simpsons Movie": It's happening. That was confirmed to MTV News by both the band's label, Reprise, and a spokesperson for 20th Century Fox studios way back in February, when a trailer for the film ... MORE

Blog post image preview Every once in a while a song gets stuck in my head, and if I'm really lucky, it's not something lame like the Brady Bunch theme, or the jingle for the Chicken Tonight sauce commercials. Lately it has been this tune by Green Day, the cover of "Working Class Hero" they they did for the Instant Karma John Lennon tribute put together by Amnesty International. I heard this on the radio, immediately pegged it as Green Day, and then made it a point to purchase whatever record i... MORE

Green Day have pretty much taken Bono’s role in world domination. Not only did they appear on the season finale of American Idol this past Wednesday, helping their single and John Lennon cover “Working Class Hero” jump eleven spots to Number Fourteen on the Modern Rock chart. But now, Green Day have recorded the theme song for the summer’s biggest flick and we’re not taking about Speilberg's Transformers either. Green Day have recorded a new version of the Sim... MORE

Jordin Sparks was crowned the new season six American Idol at the end of Wednesday night’s 2-hour season finale. A record high 74 million votes were cast in the final round of voting that brought the seventeen-year-old Sparks head to head with Seattle native and the show’s first beat boxer Blake Lewis. In the end it was down to each final performance Tuesday night, which all three American Idol judges, Simon Cowell, a broken nosed Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, gave to Sp... MORE

Blog post image preview Green Day told me they were covering John Lennon's classic "Working Class Hero" a couple months ago but then Billie hustled off to New Orleans to help build homes for people displaced by Katrina-- the ones, unlike Trent Lott, who the Bush Regime never got to. It's coming out on May 30, on a benefit album for Amnesty International, INSTANT KARMA . The Bush Regime isn't doing much to save the folks in Darfur either so the proceeds from INSTANT KARMA will help out with that. ... MORE

Allow me to regress to simpler times for just a moment, if you will. I love these first couple of pre-Dookie Green Day records. The songs remind me so much of the best parts of the Ramones. Don't misunderstand, I am not begrudging them their success...in this era of file sharing and TRL I won't ever knock a band for blowing up...I mean, I don't care what anyone says...the allure of money and girls are the reason EVERY guy starts a band. But it is fun to go back and l... MORE
