Gnarls Barkley is a Grammy-award winning musical collaboration between DJ and Producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and rapper/singer Cee-Lo Green (Thomas Callaway), from Atlanta. You can probably tell by my play lists that I'm, well, not really a current music guy. I'm definitely not into hip hop or rap (though I'm a big reggae fan, which preceded both genres...), and I'm just the least bit suspicious of "alternative" music, which leaves the buttons on my radio set to NPR and the local Christian and Jazz stations most of the time. But, as a high school principal, I'm forced by my charges to occasionally listen to music outside my comfort zone ... MORE

All I can find to say about this blog article, aside from the fact that the music offered at the bottom is un-uniquely terrible, is that I don't think there could have been another year in history in which I could encounter phenomena (epiphenomena?) of this exact nature. Striking. Perplexing. A bit horrifying. I wish I could cohere some thoughts about it. The best I could come up with is that it's an "anti-fractal," and that doesn't even mean anything. The Good: A short, fun, fast paced album that easily sucks you in.
The Bad: "Open Book" ... wow.. horrible song.

Update The article Billboard.com ran this morning about Gnarls Barkley pushing up the release of their album turned out to be only half truth. "The Odd Couple" is available this week in both online and physical retail outlets. The album can be purchased digitally now, and will be available in stores in days.

The new Gnarls Barkley album The Odd Couple will be released 1 week ahead of schedule. Cee-lo sounds very very excited about the final product too. He positively gushed on XFM about it, saying,"It's really fucking good. It's just bigger, badder, bolder and more arena-friendly." After failing the Harding Test - a test that makes sure TV images don't trigger epileptic seizures (let us not forget the Pokemon seizure incident of 1997)- the Gnarls Barkley's "Run" video has been re-edited for play in the UK. The original video's strobe effects were changed.

Early reports are saying the new Gnarls Barkley video "Run" is being withheld from MTV because it may trigger epileptic seizures with its strobe-like effects. Although the video failed the Harding Test, which judges whether or not images may cause seizures, it's still widely available on the internet.

The new Gnarls Barkley video for "Run" that was posted on MOG last week has since failed the Harding Test, meaning it won't air on MTV . The Harding Test determines whether the flashing, strobing, blinking lights in a visual piece can cause harm in some people such as epileptics.
