I've been listening to Gal Costa's first two albums on repeat for a few days. (My sister asked for a bossa nova mix. I got sidetracked.) My favourite features of these albums: - both called Gal Costa - both released in 1969 - each at least 75% "far out" - tropicalia is awesome - Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil pop up occasionally - Gal Costa's singing sounds effortless even when she's making creaky rock howls. Yet another Café Après-midi post. I'm having fun so posting these tracks. I might finish out the week with these.
Here's a pretty sweet song by Gal Costa. I'm assuming she's performing this track with Caetano Veloso.

Today I'm moggifying one of my favourite singers - Gal Costa - and the song I chose was originally recorded by _Duo Ouro Negro_ in 1966.
And here's a video from her live performance back in 1976.
Damn... how I feel bad about not seing her... those tickets should've been less expensive.. :/

David Hyman requested more Brazilians, and I am more than happy to comply. This is a classic moment from a late Sixties TV show. Doesn't give you much of a sense of what a dynamic, caressing voice Gal Costa has, but it does perfectly pinpoint a very special place and time. I think there might be one or two Mutantes in the backup band.
