Tip Your Way

(27)
Blog post image preview Chances are you'll be hearing more about The Felice Brothers. On the new record's final song, the gospel-tinged Tip Your Way, singer Ian Felice seems to realize that the band has just started out on a long road: "Tip your own true love in the rain/ Leave her there where the saxophones play/ Boy, you're young as can be/ Got country to see/ You're a long ways from heaven's gate."

More Felice Bros

It is comprised of the five main members Ian, Simone, James Felice, their friends Christmas, previously a traveling dice player, and Gregory, who is considered a young Sinatra. The Felice Brothers are more than unkempt panhandlers of American folk idioms. Plenty of on-the-lamb experimentation supplements the threadbare songs of their self-titled Team Love debut.

Blog post image preview They call themselves "a bunch of ramshackle bastards." They sing of bewitching 56 year-old cougars, lullabies about armed robbery (“Frankie’s Robbery”), and doing it doggy-style (“The Ballard Of Lou The Welterweight.”) Yes, I am talking of none other than the Felice Brothers, who after two days of non-stop music and facing exhaustion still brought me to my feet during their 1AM set at Pangaea. With roots in New York's Catskill Mountains, comparisons for the Felice Brother... MORE

Review: The Felice Brothers - The Felice Brothers

(110)
Blog post image preview The Felice Brothers The Felice Brothers When you first hear an artist, the first dozen or so times you spin the record, or hit that big pillow of a play button in I-Tunes, or press the metallic gun metal grey button on your old cassette boom box, and you hear the gears engage, the tape sliding across that little tab of felt, the first few notes for a new band are always crucial. All the piles and gigabytes of music that sit un-listened to, if there’s one wrong note, i... MORE

My buddy up in Chicago told me about these guys and my little brother saw them open up for Bright Eyes here in Memphis. Really kickass Bob Dylanish sounding band. My bro said they put on one hell of a show so check them out! I'm going to see them here in February and the world famous Hi-Tone Cafe.

Pugilists in Song - The Felice Brothers ??Ballad of Lou the Welterweight?? vs. Simon and Garfunkels ??The Boxer??

Track: The Ballad of Lou The Welterweight

Film loves boxing - it's all tight close ups of extreme action. Blood and teeth, slow motion expressions of pain. Bodies in exquisite form inflicting pain upon one another in the confines of the square ring. This does wonders for the lack of set and costumes needed. Two half naked men swinging on each other in the most primal of manors. Even if your not a boxing fan, it seems to always appeal to our most basic sensibilities of the survival of the fittest. Boxing is s... MORE

The Felice Brothers

(341)
Blog post image preview Someone's finally taken up the mantle of The Band. Introducing The Felice Brothers... Three brothers from upstate New York create songs that invoke dusty back roads, Dylan songs heard through a swinging screen door and the bittersweet feeling of dying summer light. Usually I shy away from artists that wear their influences so prominently, but not this time. From heart-wrenching tales of drug abuse (Rockefeller Druglaw Blues) to breaking hearts (Going Going Gone ), The ... MORE
