The inaugural lineup of the San Francisco Outside Lands Festival at Golden Gate Park is online now. The dates to post on your calendar are Aug. 22-24. I was mad when I first saw that Radiohead was playing, but playing with Jack Johnson of all people, but now, with the whole lineup , I have to rethink this. http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/artists/... Another Joker in the White House, said a change was comin' round
But I'm still workin' at The Wal Mart and Mary Alice, in the ground
And all them politicians, they all lyin' sacks of shit
They say better days upon us but I'm sucking left hind tit
And the preacher on the TV says it ain't too late for me
But I bet he drives a Cadillac and I'm broke with some hungry mouths to feed I wish I'z still an outlaw, was a better way of life
I could clothe and feed my family s... MORE

There was a time, starting back when I was a teenager, that I despised
country music. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I began to realize:
perhaps I was missing out on some decent music by dismissing C&W as just
twangy fodder for Midwestern girls and Western-attired wannabe-cowboys.
The artist that opened my eyes was John Hiatt, whose glorious hybrid of
country, blues, rock, pop & bluegrass convinced me that not all country
music was to be tossed aside lik... MORE

Having now been alerted to the existence of Drive-By Truckers, I've been going through their back catalog. I tried The Dirty South next, and was especially impressed with "Where the Devil Don't Stay." Then I got Southern Rock Opera, which seems to be their magnum opus. I can't decide whether the openness with which they wear their Lynyrd Skynyrd worship is naive, audacious, or both. It sounds to me like the musical equivalent of Babe Ruth calling his shot. Skynyrd is all... MORE

Love this new song and love this photo of this toy 07 car with the Drive-By Truckers logo.
Great Daytona 500 yesterday, too.

In the end, music succeeds or fails on how it makes us feel. There's a moment in the recent Bob Dylan DVD , The Other Side of the Mirror, which chronicles his performances at the Newport Folk Festival from 1963 through 1965, where you can see his appeal change from intellectual visceral. It's during a daytime acoustic performance of "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" at the 1965 festival where, behind the cerebral and, for me, often painfully earnest wordplay, you suddenly hear a ... MORE

DBT 's new CD, "Brighter Than Creations Dark", has just been marked as one my favorite albums. I have to say that every song on there is incredible. I definitely suggest to all of you who are debating on downloading, buying or whatever it is you do when purchasing music, get this album. It's one of those cd's that you can listen the whole way through without changing a track. I'm usually not this bold when it comes to an album but this one struck me. Anyway for your enjoyme... MORE

Just got the new Drive-By Truckers album, and as to be expected it is FANTASTIC . Much better than their last album (which was alright in my book).
Cooley must have sold his soul to the devil, because his songs are over the top good.
Enjoy the studio version of Bob...... MORE

Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers will release their eighth studio album, titled Brighter Than Creation's Dark, on January 22, 2008. The album is dedicated to legendary Muscle Shoals keyboardist Spooner Oldham, who also appears on the David Barbe-produced album.
In anticipation of the new album the Truckers will release a four-song Brighter Than Creation's Dark EP on December 18th via all internet retail outlets. The EP borrows the album's tracks "Two Daughters A... MORE

Well I had an interesting weekend. And the first and maybe only thing I can say about it is that I discovered that I really really like Drive-By Truckers.
Don't know what took me so long, just one of those things. Well, I had only heard a coupla songs, and if they're off one of those concept albums you really oughtta be hearing all of them in order it seems to me. And sometimes we discover these things we've heard people we trust say good things about, and it's just the... MORE

Just read another post about The Faces going on tour - it made me think about these guys: The Drive By Truckers. My buddy played this for me and all I could think about was how much it sounded like The Faces. What do you think?

One of my top 5 songs of all time, Holland, 1945 is bedrock, it's rebar. A song that's the earth you walk on, the floor you sleep on, by a band that - once you love them - can change who you are. I love this cover for how much this cover loves the original. The truckers slow it slightly & pack it in new layers of warm red dirt.... MORE

Couldn't just share one track. Here is "Checkout Time In Vegas."
Another Cooley song. What can you say, I'm a sucker for The Stroker Ace. I'll try to post a Patterson song soon.
