Dizzee Rascal has been on the outskirts of my radar for a while now. I think I heard about him in the same breath as Prefuse 73. I watched this clip of him doing "Old Skool" at SXSW and realized the beat of the song is the same one I just heard used on a DJ mix (DJ Roxy Cottontail's Totally Dudette). What is the sample? Someone more 'old skool' than I, please let me know! I'm sure it's super-famous. From Crackle: Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up Look Sharp

Dizzee Rascal, the #1 entertainer in the UK right now, was just added to the extraordinary Ibiza Rocks lineup. The loveable grime star is scheduled to perform on 29 July at San Rafael Hippodrome on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. This fits perfectly with his vow to party every night that his song is in the #1 spot! Chances are, if you live somewhere conveniently close to the Spain-ish island, you've probably already seen Dizzee plenty of times. Meanwhile, the rest o... MORE
Dizzee Rascal has headlines on nearly every major music news channel today! The grime star's latest hit, "Dance Wiv Me," featuring Calvin Harris and Chrome
is #1 on the UK singles chart this week. Surprisingly, this is Dizzee's FIRST number one! (And Chrome's 1st release ever!) Way to go fellas! Dizzee's next biggest tune, "Stand Up Tall" off 2004's Showtime, hung out in the top 10 that year, but never made it to #1. Billboard.com has more info. Stand Up Tall (from ... MORE

Racism does exist in today's music. Dizzee won't let that stop him.

Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris performed their beautiful new tune "Dance Wiv Me" in a magical mushroom-filled wonderland at Glastonbury last weekend. And, in a surprise twist, the band played it acoustically! The unamplified music really enhanced Diz's and Calvin's lovely voices. Officially my fave video of the week - and all of July so far - check it out:

Dizzee's new video is spectacular! It's so funky, so catchy and so charming. Not only because Dizzee finally let's his sweetheart side be seen (for the ladies, natch), but also coz it features UK's heartthrob-worthy gentlemen Calvin Harris and Chrome! Harris sings the chorus with laid-back smoothness and Dizzee uses lines on the ladies that would never work in real life (all he has to do in real life is wink at a woman and she melts). The grime scene is fierce and brutal, even towards its most talented players. Amongst longtime fans, Dizzee Rascal's name has become synonymous with "sell out" since signing a deal with XL in the U.K. last year. Next thing we know, Dizzee's face is everywhere; he's appearing on TV, touring around the world, etc., while his mates are still struggling in the streets and small studios in London. Recording with Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen didn't help his street cred. Ano... MORE
Dizzee was in the AOL studio recently and allegedly dropped the longest freestyle they had ever recorded! He chatted for 16 bars over Lil Wayne's "Fireman" riddim and sent love out to his american homies in UGK. Check it out:

Dizzee drops a new video today along with some knowledge. First up, the brand new video for "Where's Da G's" featuring Bun B is the best US/UK hip hop crossover that's ever been. Dizzee flies right into Houston, TX to get a tour of Bun B's hood and hook up a deal with one of his homies. It premiered on MTV today and you can watch it here: If that video isn't working, jump over to MTV.com to see it.Next up is a "lesson" in UK hip hop slang from Dizzee Rascal. Dizz... MORE

Dizzee Rascal and Amy Winehouse both scored four nominations each for UK's Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards. Dizzee was nominated for best UK male, best song for "Sirens," best video for "Sirens" and best hip hop act. I hope he wins best video because I LOVE that "Sirens" video. In fact, I'll include it here for you to watch again: Sirens
