Wow! What a way to kick off a Tuesday! Maharishi-tastic Banhart with his A-list squeeze Natalie Portman acting out some made up Hindu prophecy in art direction that screams your nearest Taj Mahal Indian restaurant calander art. (Mmm...Chicken Tikka Saag). You know what's coming next? A Banhart-produced Portman album of Warren Zevon covers. (I kid.)

Devendra Banhart has been writing and recording a full-length album with his side project the "crunk, jazz, pop" Megapuss. The new album entitled Surfin features Priestbird drummer Greg Rogove, reports NME. Haven't listened to Devendra Banhart (one of my all time favorite musicians) all that much lately. That's a crying shame considering his music consistently blows me away. I'm halfway through Rejoicing in the Hands, and I really should never have put this album down.
If you enjoy authentic, emotional music, pick any of his albums up. They're all equally amazing.

As an avid Devendra Banhart fan, I can't help but want to post one of my favorite pieces by the singer/ songwriter. I'd like to assume that everyone knows who Devendra Banhart is but in case you don't, allow me to fill you in on the musical mania you've missed. Devendra Banhart was born 1981 and was mostly raised in Venezuela, hence the Spanish undertones. Devendra Banhart's artwork is currently being displayed at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) through February 24, 2008. Banhart's artwork will be displayed alongside works from renowned Swiss painter Paul Klee in 'Abstract Rhythms: Paul Klee and Devendra Banhart'.
