Death Cab for Cutie is an American band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band takes its name from a satirical song, of the same name, performed by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band on their 1967 album Gorilla and in the Beatles experimental movie, Magical Mystery Tour.

so i have to admit, much to what i am sure is Groon's chagrin, i like Death Cab for Cutie. i caught the first song by them a year or so ago on one the Sirius stations i listen to. and i have to say i'm really diggin "I Will Follow You into the Dark" right now. maybe it's the funk i've been in, or just the right song at the right time... but i've listened to that album, and song, a few times this week. oh well.. we all have our daemons.... A friend of mine forwarded this "investigative news report" from Salt Lake City to me and I just had to share it. It's about this "new subculture" that's sweeping teens called "emo." 2I have just started listening to this band and I love the feel of their music. Being new to MOG , I am just learning that there is another world of music out there that I have not been tuning in to. Death Cab for Cutie reprise last year's Grammy debut with two nominations: "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal" and "Best Long Form Video." Downright surreal is how I would describe watching the band turn this way and that - nattily attired in suits and ties - responding to the bank of press photographers pitched in front of the Red Carpet. It's certainly possible I'm going soft in my age and at any moment my brain is going to fall out of my ear or something, but I just can't get enough of this video for Death Cab for Cutie's new single "I Will Follow You Into the Dark." As Ben Gibbard's singular skill seems to be turning any topic into a sentimental minefield (see "We Looked Like Giants" for supporting evidence), one shouldn't be surprised that this little pledge of eternal love is a sweet little bummer....
