I saw Daniel Johnston for the first time on friday. It was great. Scout Niblett, Jad Fair and James McNew from Yo La Tengo played a few songs together, then Scout, James McNew, Mark Linkous and Daniel each played a few songs. Finally all the support acts played as Daniel's backup band for a greatest hits-ish set including Walking The Cow, Casper The Friendly Ghost, True Love Will Find You In The End, Rock This Town and Devil Town among others. Well I'm nearly speechless at this ... While researching another band 'The Capital Years' I stumbled across this incredible story about outsider artist Daniel Johnston here "When I was a kid, probably nine, I used to bang around on the piano, making up horror movie themes. One of the special features on the DVD The Devil And Daniel Johnston is a radio broadcast that shows his quickness and unique humor. I found the interview both hilarious and mesmerizing.
I ripped the audio before mailing the DVD back to NetFlix. Hope you enjoy as much as I have.

Daniel Johnston’s, Beck’s or Wilco’s version of ‘True Love Will Find You In The End’. Three amazing versions of the song but which one do I truly love? Daniel Johnston is a amazing lyricist. All his song are beautifully written and are some of the most wonderful song lyrics I've heard (he's no Ben Gibbard/Wayne Coyne though). Perhaps Al Gore is in need of a theme song. He might not want one but then again he might not know about the benifits of one. So here are some suggestions for Mr. Gore: Daniel Johnston - Silly Love (Fun)This one would show Gore's a real softy but sort of a crazy, rejected softy; but still hopeful. I went to the Sunday Night Adventure Club on the weekend and watched and enjoyed Josie Long, who reminded me that I actually really love Daniel Johnson. He came up in her routine because her show, titled "trying is good", is on the theme that no matter what you are trying for, it is good to put in a lot of effort, regardless of how misguided it is (her example is of the fancy dress party she went to as half princess Diana and half Mother Theresa - the glorious dead of 199...
