I'm ambiguous, as it's in my nature to be, about Valentine's Day. Usually on this day, I put up my favourite song, ever, "Origin of Love". But "How Can I Tell You?" was on one of those best-of CDs my future ex-husband gave me at Christmas, and I'd never heard it before! How can that be? How could I possibly have missed a Cat Stevens song! I even owned - _owned_ - Izitso, although maybe that purchase isn't a good example of my adoration, being a bit of a departure from his... MORE

Harold and Maude created an entire generation of slightly disturbed kids and goths despite never releasing a soundtrack to the film. Well, it's been 36 years but it's never too late for such a classic collection. And, if it reeks of classic hits, it must be coming out of the Attic. Light In The Attic has been releasing and reissuing some of our time's most classic, overlooked gems and they show no sign of slowing down. The soundtrack to Hal Ashby's "Harold And Maude" film... "There are no words, I can use
Because the meaning still leaves for you to choose
And I couldn't stand to let them be abused, by you. Dreams I had just last night
Made me scared, white with fright
But I'm over to that Sunnyside Road
Over to that Sunnyside Road Fortunes come and fortunes go
But things get better babe, that's one thing I know
And I'm over to that Sunnyside Road
Over to that Sunnyside Road I have a friend that I have met
Who gives me love... MORE

"They brang us up with horns and hollywooden songs
Dead snakes and poisoned wisdoms between our teeth
The evil that's been done still is carrying on
And on this night there'll be no peace The old leaders' bones still beat on our homes
They built our life before us, we had no choice
The evil that's been done still is carrying on
And when they're gone we'll be the voice Blue bird on a rock, slow wind blowing soft
Across the bare face of the sleeping lake

_"I got no strings to tie me down,"_ Marcel said before leaving the house on Thanksgiving morning.
By days end, however, it was quite apparent that he was mistaken.

Before Cat Stevens jumped off the Peace Train (and then apparently got back on again) he was making pretty cool music...
.
What a lot of people didn't know is that he (like yours truly) is the product of a Greek father... Cat (original name: Steven Demetre Georgiou) or Yusuf made a lot of great music before he went all fatwa on Salman Rushdie's ass...
.
The song RUBY LOVE sort of slipped between the cracks... (not of Rushdie's ass), but I think it's definitely... MORE

Earlier today I watched Harold and Maude. It is definitely more interesting than it's title leads on. A kid who fakes suicides to get his mother's attention and then solves the problem by falling in love with a 79 year old woman who wants to commit suicide on her 80th birthday in a couple weeks - absolutely brilliant, and also, quite hilarious. I didn't know it when I decided to rent this movie, but Cat Stevens did the entire soundtrack. I mean every song is a Cat Steven... MORE

Maude: Harold, everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can't let the world judge you too much.

Original Post: I've had a song from Harold & Maude going through my head for days. Here, maybe you'd like it for awhile. I'm not sure what the actual title is: (I wonder why there's no option to play this on my Recently Played List?) Okay, a lovely mogger told me the song title, so I overcame my laziness just enough to sort this one out. According to the Harold & Maude homepage, some of the songs were written specifically for the movie and not released un... MORE

I just discovered this song on my computer. It's a Cat Stevens classic that isn't as well known as his other classics. I'm glad to know it a bit better now.
