So about a month ago I was listening to local radio when I heard that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club would be making their way through town. I immediately rushed to the ticketmaster website, and then to all the local (largish) venues to try and find show/ticket information. Nada, nothing, zilch. No one had any information (at least not the usual suspects) and I was left in the dark. A few weeks later I found out it was not a “regular” show and it was not at a place where I would... MORE

I've been pretty busy this past week and am only just getting around to getting this posted. April 19th was Record Store Day and my wife Heather and I headed up from our Carolina home to Lexington KY where Peter Hayes and Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club did a fantastic unplugged free show in the parking lot of a record store called CD Central located just up the street from the University of Kentucky. In this photo Peter has turned away from the audience for ... MORE

I don't understand why some musicians make it and others don't. Its a crazy world. BRMC is one of those groups that I thought would break through because they had a different sound then most of the groups emerging at that time.
BRMC came onto the scene when the strokes, libertines, and many others were garnering attention. They did sign with a major just like the others did. However, they were dropped right after Coachella 2004. This is a video of BRMC "Devils Wain... MORE

BRMC is a great band, especially live. This is something a little different for them but it shows an interesting side to their repertoire. This Dylan tune dates back to 1964 near the time of the actual and very sad event that he's describing in the song. Enjoy...... MORE

This song is completely in my head right now. Don't know why. Perhaps it's the "La Grange" style riff. Or that B.R.M.C. just rocks that much.

So... you like Jesus & Mary Chain? Velvet Underground? Led Zeppelin? Ride? Nick Jago, Robert Been (who's father is Michael Been from The Call) and Peter Hayes formed BRMC in 1998 - Peter being originally in The Brian Jonestown Massacre (a band I saw support BRMC a few years back when they were promoting the 3rd Album, Howl).- BJM is well worth a blog in their own right as they are barmy! The first album, BRMC showed their influences of Ride and JAMC w... MORE

I love my iPod. It is trite and simple but the darn thing just does what I want it to do and it does it well. The use of the device does have some unintended consequences.
For me the biggest of those is that I tend to to get "locked" into the songs on the iPod. I've got the mighty 4 gig type unit so my process has been that each of my 350-ish CD's get 1-2 songs and certain favored discs (London Calling) and some miscellaneous Greatest Hits albums get more than 2. Thi... MORE

thank you for rocking.
For rocking my socks and my fishnets.
For making rock so sexy.
For rocking even more than this glorious pencil-sharpener:
For making me bounce off the walls.
Come to Greece, you can sleep on my couch. Don't make me come all the way to San Fransisco and drag you back to my cave.
On second thought... ;)
Rockingly and primitively yours,
Anna.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club put on an outstanding 1 hour performance as the second of two opening acts for the Kings of Leon. We had a first row seat. I am still a newbie at getting into this band but after seeing them twice now this month and listening to their CDs over the past couple of weeks I am really impressed by their sound. It was well worth the trip to Knoxville to catch them again. I made note of the set list:
Berlin, Weapon Of Choice, Love Burns, Stop, Rise Or F... MORE

Wow...the wife and I scored some second row tickets off Ebay to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club again. These guys put on a great show a couple weeks ago when we saw them in Asheville so I know it's going to be a good time and worth the 100 mile or so road trip to get there.... MORE

Likelihood notwithstanding, if you ever find yourself wanting to go CD shopping whilst malling in Bangkok, I have a couple of things to say as a tourist.
The ubiquitous CD Warehouses have unsurprisingly the biggest inventory and fastest turnover. By which I mean that, when you decide at any point to buy a CD, it takes as little effort to walk back to the last store as to go forward to the next store. Having been deprived of CD shopping in record-storeless Cambodia for cl... MORE

Artist: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Album: Baby 81
Track: Weapon of Choice Heavily reminiscent of Stereophonics replacing the deeper growl for a more nasally drawl. But it works. A hit or miss band, but this song shows what they can do when their on their game.... MORE

These guys put on a great show last night. I was there to check them out for the first time and was quite impressed. I want to hear more so I guess I'll be picking up some CDs soon. They did a great cover of I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier (John Lennon track). BTW , if you ever get a chance to see the band that opened up (called Chops) don't go...these guys really sucked! It was good that they were only on stage for 20 minutes. Here's a couple pics from the show.

Friends of mine have been Black Rebel Motorcycle Club fans for a long while now, and while the stuff I'd heard I liked, I wasn't nuts about 'em to actually own anything.
Flash to 2006, watching an episode of my current favorite 'still on the air' TV show, Fox's Bones... MORE
