Rarely do I read a book that strikes me enough to MOG about, let alone that becomes such a staple to a genre of music that it deserves a plug on MOG. The book, Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes From The American Indie Underground, 1981-1991 by Michael Azerrad is a fantastic archive of 13 of the most important independent acts of the 80's. The book has fantastic exposure to the inception and crumbling of Black Flag, the true intensity of Husker Du's live show and tour... MORE
For those of you following the daily carnage of Mog Wars 3, I've put together a little map over at NNDB.com that will explain the guilty parties, the deceased parties, and all those who have fallen to the black hand that is Control. I'll speak no more, let my family pa for my misdeeds... See the map in full detail here
So in case y'all haven't noticed Converse is running an ad on our good old MOG for a contest aimed at musicians. "Get Out of the Garage" is a contest that's incredibly easy to enter. All you gotta do is submit one of your best songs, either online (http://www.getoutofthegaragemusiccontest.com/) or at a Journey's shoe store, now through Sept 15. I notice a ton of bands on MOG promoting themselves, so I know there's talent residing in MOG-land, and it sure ain't me. So get ... MORE
This was a big event at the time. There was actually an interesting scene in Cedar Falls, Iowa with bands on SST, Alternative Tentacles, Enigma stopping through between gigs in Chicago and Denver to play a little hole-in-the-wall bar called Dean's Parkade Lounge. The Black Flag show was held across the river in "The Boat House" on the scenic Cedar River. GONE performed early that day at Co-Op records to promote their new LP and the concert that afternoon. I remember th... MORE

Can't help but feel sorry for this kid; what a mess.
Another day, another mp3. Today, it's the best 51 seconds in punk rock history: Wasted by Black Flag. If I could, I would post four songs here, Nervous Breakdown, Fix Me, I've Had It and Wasted. That's the Nervous Breakdown ep, with Keith Morris on vocals (before he went on to form the Circle Jerks), and a more Platonic Ideal of SoCal punk rock does not exist. It's perfect, and the whole thing isn't five and a half minutes long. Wasted is the thrashing climax to the alb... MORE
I don't even have time to explain why...these past few weeks have been MEGA stress. I shouldn't even be taking time to write this...let's just say, when it rains it pours...aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggg!
Black Flag to the rescue!
Love this song, also pretty ironic that Henry Rollins is singing about a bunch of stuff he no longer does.
FEATURING A REVIEW OF THE DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE SHOW WHICH INSPIRED THIS SONG!Director: Danny VinikFrom 1978 to 1982, Glenn O'Brien's groundbreaking public access cable TV program TV Party was the main face of the New York Art/New Wave/Punk scene. The main inspiration for TV Party was actually Hugh Hefner's live party TV show "Playboy After Dark". Glenn also threw in elements of Johnny Carson as well. His co-host was Chris Stein of Blondie. TV Party became an underground c... MORE
So...I'm probably light years behind in discovering this new music video station called The Tube. It is pretty much the opposite of MTV - music videos 24/7. No annoying specialty shows. Hardly ANY commercials. The catch is that they play videos that appeal more to the 30 + crowd. No Death Cab videos. No Fall Out Boy Videos. Definitely no Chingy or Lil' Wayne videos. You will see videos by (mostly) quality artists - Marvin Gaye, Elvis Costello, Coldplay, Depeche Mod... MORE
