So we made it to Bonnaroo after a 16 hour drive from New Jersey. "We" being my friend Omar and me after three stops for gas guzzling almost $120 for a tank and a half and a pretty rotten experience with a Virginia Waffle House (My body rejected it after ten minutes) we rolled into the campgrounds at 1AM on Thursday morning. After sleeping haphazardly for 2-3 hours the festivities began. The first act we saw was Newton Faulkner all the way from England and he played one o... MORE
Last week I got word on myspace that Battles, Liars and fuck buttons were doing a pre show (for picthfork v's ATP festival at camber sands).
I am so excited! should be an excellent show.

God bless those ATP folks.
I'll do a concert review when I upload all the pictures. I am wiped out!!! Got home late and had to get up early to come into work. Maybe I should get a job where going to shows, writing reviews, and taking photos IS my job. How can that even be called work?
I do have a question for all you moggers. What do you do for work? Occupation? This should be ridiculously interesting.
And for the musical portion of this mog...TRAS.
What a great band name and album title :) I hadn't heard of these guys 'til last weekend when a friend in work let me listen to them and described it as his 'favourite album of 2007'. I trust this guy pretty solidly with music recommendations as he has introduced me to such great music as Múm and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, so I knew I shouldn't let this one pass me by without a listen. And I wasn't disappointed. As far as I know this is their first full-length album,... MORE

Interestingly enough, I had the pleasure of seeing both Battles and Don Caballero play within a few months of each other last year at the ol’ music venue I used to help book and promote. This is significant as guitarist Ian Williams (pictured above, courtesy of Radio Free Chicago) brought his non-soloing fingertap riffage [...]

I don't know if I have a lot of original ideas about Battles and their crazy sound, but as they are on tour I will just urge anyone curious to definitely check them out. I haven't listened much to their recordings, but their show is hardly dependent on knowing the "songs." The stage was set with one of the guitarists coming out, playing a loud bass riff a few times, then standing still while the loop he'd just created continued to play. Then it is on to knob-twisting an... MORE
Another album I didn't really get into, but liked some of its songs ...and to be honest, this is how it goes for all Battles I've heard. The recording and mix are A LOT better than any of their EPs, making it easier to appreciate the songs as a whole - rather than being distracted by how fucking loud and abrasive that snare or keyboard part is. Though, they still chose some god-awful sounds that no amount of post could fix. That aside, it's one of the more interesting rele... MORE
There it was in the darkened Thursday night shining brightly with all its yellow glory. The Great American was proclaiming to the city of San Francisco it's ownership of Battles for that night. I could almost hear the sinister laugh of evil delight coming from the ticket booth...muahahahahaaa ala Vincent Price. (That one's for you Lizzie!) This was going to be special. Already there was a crowd of hipsters lining up to get into the venue with their tickets in hand. A... MORE
I found this new video for "Tonto" by Battles, from their Mirrored album. I don't know much about it, but I thought you might enjoy...
OH! a relevant, punny title! How lame ABC! (slap on wrist). Now for the meat of the matter, or, the matter of the meat, this past week has been absurdly discombobulating a) with the election season on full steam and all sides taking potshots or arguing about 'who's the biggest celebrity' or 'who's going to raise/lower taxes, and obamania finding outlets (I even saw a cardboard cutout this weekend!) b) Edwards cheating on his cancerous wife. Yick, won't get into THAT c) R... MORE
While in Amsterdam, Dave and Ian answered some questions about their album "Mirrored" and inciting a riot at a poetry festival. Battles do no wrong.
