Barry Harris (born December 15, 1929) is an American bebop jazz pianist and educator. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 15, 1929, Barry Harris was influenced by Art Tatum, Coleman Hawkins, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk. Harris left Detroit for New York City in 1960. Harris has played with Cannonball Adderley, Illinois Jacquet, Coleman Hawkins, Dexter Gordon, and Max Roach.     Barry Harris is one of the great bebop pianists who came out of Detroit in the 1950s. Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan were two others. He taught many of the musicians who came through there, and runs workshops today in New York City for those who are learning to play jazz. He's performing "I Didn't Know What Time It Was", a tune that one of Barry's heroes, Charlie Parker, played frequently.... MORE
