MOGstars: 7 out of 10 If The Strokes were heralded from the start as the sound of modern NYC, then guitarist Albert Hammond jr.’s (not to be confused with his Gibraltar born father) was an altogether more upstate affair. Rejecting some of the grit and bite of the garage rock mother-band, Yours To Keep was more sedate, at times even whimsical, yet twinned with an unmistakable bite. Hammond now returns to similar territory with the release of his second solo record, ¿Cóm... MORE
After work today I headed out to pick up a few cd's for myself. Call it a reward for a great day of school, call it me feeding my addiction if you will. I had a list pre-made of three albums I wanted to get. Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, Albert Hammond Jr. and M83. Me First is a band that brings back a lot of memories and the cd is a collection of all their first 7 inches they put out way back when. While I have all those albums, I thought it would be nice to have them ... MORE
If I may paraphrase Michael Stipe.
Just sitting here listening to his new album and on some tracks I think he is actually channeling Marc Bolan.

Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has released a new video for "GfC," the first single off his second solo album ¿Cómo Te Llama?.
The album was released on July 7, 2008 in the UK and July 8, 2008 in the US.
The official video for "GfC" directed by Laurent Briet (Moby, Death Cab for Cutie, Radiohead, Chk Chk Chk...)

On Albert's myspace page it shows that his band will be releasing a new album this June. His first solo record, Yours To keep was criticized for not straying too far from The Strokes' material. However, if The Strokes' first record Is This It? is a long night in the city, Yours To Keep, in my opinion, is a Sunset in California. I saw Albert live when he was touring in Summer 2007. He played in Northampton, MA at Pearl Street Night Club and it was a nice refreshing sight ... MORE
I was never a big Strokes fan, but the chorus on this thing is the same as the verse of the Rod Stewart classic (sic) "Some Guys Have All the Luck".
It'd be even better if the video had him wearing Vans in a black and white checkerboard room. +30 points if it's intentional, -10 if it's just a melodic accident.
Well Last Night I went to see Albert Hammond jr. at The Academy in Manchester, and I think I'm bound by MOG-law to tell you all about it. The evening started of with mixed fortune, we were at the front of the line, but kept being hassled by a wino handing out flyers to a club night where we could be "smoking de weed, smoking de weed". I'm still not sure why he thought this would appeal to me more than all the other passers-by, but such is life I suppose. I also kept gett... MORE
I'm not usually one for blogging but i've just heard that Albert Hammond Jr is playing Leeds Fest!
Great news, the stuff i've heard sounds amazing and im a massive fan of the strokes in general. So seeing Mr Hammond would be awesome.
Joxley wrote a post several months ago about seeing Albert Hammond Jr. of the Strokes. Until that point I didn't know he had a solo album but Joxley linked to his video and i liked it but i had more pressing musical concerns. I recently was listening to it on Multiply and my three year old son made me play "Cartoon Music for Superheroes" over and over and over again. I played it for my 17 year old and she demanded a copy of it. He is opening for Bloc Party over here an... MORE
1. i missed The Good, The Bad and The Queen on David Letterman last night. 2. I might not be able to go see Bloc Party/Albert Hammond Jr. in Royal Oak on the 24th. I finally looked at our calendar last weekend and noticed my husband is on call. He had it set up to change call with someone else but his boss might not let him. I will have to let my daughter go with a friend. I am sure she will be seriously hurt having to go with a friend to a rock show instead of her mothe... MORE
