I was once waiting for a friend in the lobby of an office building in New York while they were preparing to display a piece of Roy Lichtenstein's work. I don't know what its exact dimensions were, but what they were setting up was gargantuan. It had to be at least a hundred feet tall (the lobby was immense, and my suspicion was that the painting still wouldn't fit). I never saw the piece up and displayed, which I regret now. I don't know how you would even go about lo... MORE
The very nature of this record, its' essence, the spaces where the edges of songs come together, demands the listener to question their own expectations of pop music. That is whether or not it is the job of pop music in general to provide a catchy melody with which to sing along in the car to or should it be used as a device to shine a light on man’s deepest desires and faults? Such is the dilemma on Aimee Mann’s sixth record, an attempt at bridging her compell... MORE
The new Aimee Mann album, "@#x%x! Smilers," is out June 3. It's a beautiful album. Check the lead off track, "Freeway."
I dig this new Aimee Mann song, "Thirty One Today," a lot. It's off her upcoming album, @#x%x! Smilers, which will be out June 1.
If you haven't seen this movie, see it.
Excellent performance by Tom Cruise, Philip Seymor Hoffman, Julianne Moore, William H. Macy, Melora Walters, and John C. Reilly. The whole plot(s) circle around the character played by Jason Robards. Great movie.
The sound track by Aimee Mann really pulls it all together. Kinda like that rug in The Dude's apartment. Here is a sample for ya.

Another amazing album by the formidable Aimee Mann. Her musical style and lyrics create a deeply personal story-world which the listener is drawn into almost hypnotically. One of the most sophisticated singer/songwriters out there today.
I was just sitting here thinking...not even that deeply, and this song came on via the shuffle! Talk about a song that can swing your state of mind! This is some serious life assessing music. Ah, the beauty of the internet...hear it, think it, post it.

Aimee Mann and "bass player" are probably not synonymous but there it is, photographic evidence AND a wikipedia entry! Aimee Mann is in fact a bass player! She's more known as a songwriter and arranger of intelligent pop music, and to some as no more than the singer from 'Til Tuesday...her music is almost always in the personal/"confessional" vein - writing about relationships, addiction and more in a very accessible, universal way. Here are a few tracks to get you sta... MORE
i walk into starbucks and this song is playing. not that i have a problem with amiee man, quite the opposite - in fact, i fell in love with her more when i found out she was married to "macy day parade" michael penn. but it was just confusing. i worked at starbucks for almost a year. i've heard everything off the starbucks hear music cds at least 50 times. and starbucks only plays music they sell. but then here was amiee mann doing a 5+year old song with no ties to s... oh, baby, i wonder
if when you are older
someday
you’ll wake up
and say, ’my god, i should have told her -
what would it take? when i saw aimee play, while i was visiting chicago on valentine's day, this was one of the songs she played. i was thrilled as this is from one of my most favorite albums of hers, and not one that gets much notice. i'm not sure if i have written about my deep love for aimee mann, and her lyrical storytelling. if i were ever to write that nov...
