It's A Punk Psych Freakout!

Blog post image preview My good friend Jon Savage has compiled a 6CD mixtape set of Punk Psych. What an amazing racket of crunching beat and lysergic anthems, full of songs called "Mirror Of Your Mind", 'Smell Of Incense', 'People Let's Freak Out', and 'The Orange Rooftop Of Your Mind", played by bands called The Blue Things, Freaks Of Nature, The Electric Prunes, and Painted Faces. Seamlessly mixed among these groovin' freakouts are the contemporary singles of "serious artists" like Jimi Hendrix... MORE

It's Easter Everywhere - On The 13th Floor...

(19)
I'm still working my way through Paul Drummond's "Eye Mind: The Saga of Roky Erikson and The 13th Floor Elevators, The Pioneers of the Psychedelic Sound" and am delighted to learn how much more Austin. Texas had to do with the psychedelic revolution than I ever knew.
What I've learned so far (in brief):Gilbert Shelton, creator of "The Fabulous Fury Freak Brothers", roommate, may have introduced liquid LSD to Austin, Texas.
Janis Joplin left University of Texas for San Franci... MORE

Roky Erickson

Free music video of You're Gonna Miss Me (6)
Blog post image preview
Recently I’ve discovered that I can watch some of the movies from the Netflix catalog on their website. Because of this I’ve seen stuff that I wouldn’t normally rent, like the Roky Erickson documentary “You’re Gonna Miss Me.” The film is a sad portrait of the former singer/songwriter of the 13th Floor Elevators and it details his long battle with drugs, the law, and insanity. The film doesn’t end triumphantly, with Roky playing music on stage again or not needing caretake... MORE

Blog post image preview ...speaking of old posts , I'm sitting outside in the sun, checking the 13th Floor Elevators...feels good with the sun in my face while the fermented accouterments do their thing...a little surf rock's right in the pocket...before I run off into the California night, I thought I'd slap these babies on, sound quality be damned...here's a couple of cuts that weren't on the film Hi Fidelity...

psychadelia at it's best

the elevators are from Austin, TX... mid 60's. they have a bunch of great under-appreciate songs... however, recently some computer company used their song, "You're Gonna Miss me" in a tv ad.

Hey, a blast from before my time.. "You're Gonna Miss Me" by 13th Floor Elevators.. A band that has become a regular in my record rotation over the past year or so. I am a brand new MOG person, 'guy' or whatever.. So I thought what better way to start off by posting a great phsycadellic rock song.. It is not however my favorite song by these guys, but it waspretty much the only video i could really dig up.. this clip is from American Bandstand i think.. enjoy. <... MORE

Don't Miss Out on the 13th Floor Elevators

Artist:
Album:
Track:
(14)
Blog post image preview After a week of running around, I've been catching up on the sitting down stuff that I got yelled at for trying to do back then (which was understandable, considering the circumstances)...I've found myself listening to the 13th Floor Elevators a lot today and, if you're into 60s-era guitar rock (with a little jug-band action thrown in as a garnish) then you'd be all over The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators...I'd mentioned them before but failed to write up ... Blog post image preview I discovered this awesome album buy a 60's psychedelic band called The 13th Floor Elevators. The album is called "Easter Everywhere". There is something magical going on on this album. These dudes have tapped into that acid plane to make some bluesy, funky, trippy, fuzzy, punky, music. At times the lead singers voice is so melodically in touch with the music that it sounds evil the way everything comes together. I am so glad I found this album.

13th Floor Elevators-- Did You Realize?

Artist:
Track: You Didn't Realize
Free music video of You Didn't Realize (1)
Blog post image preview The 13th Floor Elevator's best-known cut was "You're Gonna Miss Me"+ which was also the tune played during the opening of the film Hi Fidelity which was based on Nick Hornby's book...I found this old footage of them performing the tune on American Bandstand in YouTube... repost: here's a link to an interview I did with John Cusack ...

Who else here digs Roky Erikson? I was just spinning "Two Headed Dog," and it rocks off the tables. Man, what an awesome weirdo. I miss his craziness...
