WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Good Musical Memories growing up..

Posted over 3 years ago
My best memories were probably the times spent with friends listening to music. I can remember saving my allowance for weeks to buy the new Frankie Goes to Hollywood record "Welcome To The Pleasuredome". I spent a summer babysitting some younger cousins (6 + 9 yo) and we listened to Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" over & over. The many hours I spent in used record stores searching for new bands, and chatting with the employees about..what else? Music. In my High School & beyond days it was Main St. Records, and then Son of Main St Records in Northampton, MA. I would judge unheard of (by me) bands on the cover artwork. Got into Sepultura, Quicksand, Pavement, Blue Murder, and The Home Alive Project (to name a few) that way. After MSR closed it was Turn It Up Records. They have great finds galore. I miss that place, and can't wait to go home in October to see what I can dig up. They have about 6 places with headphones set up so you can check out the cds prior to purchase. They also sell cds by local bands, which is cool.

  1. Bawston Sean says My "I like good music, you like crap" t-shirt from Turn It Up Records is one of my all time most prized posessions. The Happy Valley did have some great record stores...I haven't been there in years. I saw some awesome shows out there, too...damn, I'm gettin' all misty-eyed.
