About a month ago, several music blogs were shut down (or outright deleted in some cases) due to illegal downloads of Mariah Carey's music. Def Jam took a very active role in sending out the message that they take action against any blogs offering free downloads.
Several blogs have suffered the same misfortune today as Madonna's new album Hard Candy leaked onto the web. A few sites known for offering free music are currently sleeping with the fishes.
While it's a temporary annoyance, it's ultimately a war of attrition that the major labels will lose. For every blog that's taken down five more will ultimately replace it.
For now we can pour out a little liquor for the fallen soldiers.

A lot of these sites are hosted by Blogger (operated by google). They do this because it's a free service and it's easy to use.
When the major labels come complaining to google, they just shut down the site.

We've only got 4 minutes to blog! Mah-Donnna!
I like how they say it's Def Jam, not Universal, DJ's owner. Like it's more personal and not an overgrown bully.

I remember when Emancipation of Mimi came out, a lot of blogs were shut down then. It's no surprise they did it again with the Mariah or Madonna albums.
