Viacom's Own Infringements Could Be Trouble

Posted over 2 years ago
A recent search has shown that Viacom owned iFilm, a service that lets users upload videos, contains plenty of material that Viacom does not own the rights to, according to Ars Technica . This could present a problem in Viacom's lawsuit against youtube for copyright infringement. Especially since youtube appears to take a more active role in deleting illegal content from its site than iFilm.*"Link To Full Article":http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070319-infringing-videos-on-ifilm-could-cause-problems-for-viacom.html*

  1. Lester Jonze says Very interesting. I was scrolling through my posts and a lot of videos I had posted have mysteriously disappeared, Big Brother is watching us. Looks like someone else is watching him.

  6. CrashPryor says ...I was listening to a report that Viacom had had a Bimskal Bim (or some ska band's) video taken off YouTube claiming it was their property...it wasn't...and they dragged their feet to correct the issue....turns out MTV2 played the video back in the day but it wasn't proprietary to anything owned by the DeathstarCom...it took one of the band members sending a bunch of emails to their legal department to get it back up...

  7. B42 says Think we'll ever reach a peaceful solution to the insanity? Or will we all just have to pay, pay, pay for every bit of content we consume? Viacom doesn't scare me half as much as AT&T does, and now they're hooking up with Apple!

  8. CrashPryor says ...yeah B, the writing's on the wall...they got about 290 days to slide that sort of thing through...you can think it's not going to happen at your peril...AT&T not only does your phone out here, it handles your broadband too in many instances...talk about "sewing everything up?"

  12. CrashPryor says Carole King...now there's an artist you can set your watch to...and she's a drummer too (digressing) all of this tells me that the digital age has slowed down their fast and loose three card monte of configuration changes (which is all good in my book) so now they're crying foul...a friend of mine just sent me an email that read: now is then, now...
