"Rap City" Canceled After 19 Years On The Air

Posted about 1 year ago

Although it was widely considered to be less entertaining and groundbreaking than Yo! MTV Raps, BET's Rap City has been a staple on cable television to get your fix of hip hop vids. The long running show will air it's final episode at the end of October, according to "Allhiphop":http://allhiphop.com/stories/news/archive/2008/10/01/20545500.aspx.

The general consensus seems to be that the show's heydey took place between 1994-1999 when Joe Claire and Big Lez handled the hosting duties. However, my favorite Rap City moments will always be in "The Big Tigger" era, where artists stepped in the booth to freestyle (or embarrass themselves by trying).

Here are two of my favorite freestyles from the show, if you have any ... please add them in the comments section. These two in particular are memorable to me because the artists TRULY came off the dome and freestyled.

Snoop Dogg - We Fly High (CRIPPINNNN!!!)

Killer Mike & Big Boi

Damn.  R.I.P Rap City.  This is a sad note.  Especially since so many folks made money off of real cats doing it.
