I'm loving Nas right now.
O'Reilly kills me. I love the format of his show. It's so objective to have as guests on your show, two people that completely agree with what you're saying. What ever happened to opposing viewpoints?
so funny...Nas is awesoem!
I have not watched yet, but I will tell you what Bill Said: "Nas is just and entertainer, why should we listen to him?" (marginalize) Then, "He is just selling copies of his new record." (make it sound as if Nas' self interest is the only interest) As if anyone has the mony to run a separate network and challenge the corporate fascism of Fox. Nas is using the tools he has and a position he earned by working in a record industry that does not promote people for their political voice. Damn strainght Nas - and on top of that, your publicity worked on me. I really might buy this album. I have not bough a Nas album in years either.
I don't know how I feel about his speech. I think his song is much more effective. But believe me, I'm not siding with Fox. I would never take their side, I just feel you ahve to come at them from a different angle. It feels a bit sensationalist in this manner. And that's what fox is as well. His speech just seems to outline all the points that was made in the moveon.org email blast that went out. The speech seems written for him, as he's just reading it off the paper (I could be wrong, but it just seems a little ill prepared - if your gonna make a statement like that).
I guess my problem lies more in how we protest these days - it's for camera's, and requires air time to make your "point". I think it's great what the internet is doing to mobilize people, but why go to all that trouble and then have to put on a "show" of a demonstration?
and then there's small little things I could disect "It's about money" -no I think it's more about control, personally. Of course any network is concerned about money, yes, but Fox isn't big enough in the ratings for it to be about the money. It's about pushing the Administrations agenda. Therefore control of the message.
I like Nass, but this is just too much show boating for me. As for how you get your message out in a post-protesting age, I'm not sure, but it all just feels so artificial...
i was actuaqlly suprised at the first video, Nas looks straight nervous. Guess public speaking isn't as easy as public rapping. Nevertheless, props for standing up to Fox, atriculating what we all know, and providing a voice for those who can't be heard as only a rapper promoting his new album can.
