Nas, along with reps from "MoveOn.org":http://www.moveon.org/ and "ColorOfChange.org":http://www.colorofchange.org/ will deliver a petition of over 600,000 signatures to Fox News tomorrow in Manhattan.
The petition claims that Fox News is practicing racism against Black Americans, notably presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Included in the incidents that sparked this petition was Fox labeling Obama's hand gesture with his wife to be a "terrorist fist jab" and Bill O'Reilly calling a "lynching party" to deal with Mrs. Obama.
I have mixed feelings on all of this because deep down I want to think that Fox does this simply to draw ratings, and it's nothing more than misguided capitalism (if there is such a thing). I want to believe there are no true racists at Fox, just vultures doing whatever it takes to rake in right wing viewers.
What's your take on everything?

I think pretty much anything that can be done to draw attention to the bias at FOX is good. I applaud Nas and MoveOn for doing this.
I saw something about this on stereohyped, and I really think it's sick that Nas is being public about his hatred for O'reilly. Bill O'Reilly represents the misrepresentation that traditionalists place in today's media, and really needs to learn his place.
I am sure many of us know of Rupert Murdoch and his long resume of dominance over many streams of media. I know a lot of you are very socially conscious. I am surprised to hear such faith in a channel such as Fox News, which for you music lovers, is under the same parent corporation as Clear Channel. Have you watched Fox News? Do you notice any details (and they aren't hidden or intricate) that might make you think that it is a neo-conservative, far-right wing, propaganda advocating, rhetoric driven medium for information? They misguide the people who listen to them, and many people look to the news for their direct information; information they regard as the truth.
Are they racist? They are definitely opponents to change. I would even go as far as saying should slave labor ever be re-introduced as an idea to US domestic economy, they would find a way of making it seem feasable and a reasonable necessity for something ridiculous like 'patriotism'. I could see Bill O'Reilly now, "I don't get what people are so upset about?!" With a dumb look on his face shrugging his shoulders. Obviously this would be pointed at people who are in economic dispair, which globally would see a larger percentage of those people being people of color, and in the US predominantly black, latino, and asian (most numbers of which go highly un-accounted for due to issues with immigration legalities).
A "terrorist fist jab"? They're giving each other dap!!! How in the fu@# did that translate into a terrorist fist jab? Maybe they aren't racist, but they sure are bigoted... maybe we can say they are ethnocentrist? And let's say for fun that they are extreme ethnocentrist although it is redundant. They advocate hate and violence by pushing fear. Fear that is false.
Media is an extremely valuable medium to reach people. I think television may be stronger than radio. It is abuse of power. Ever studied any coups? More often than not one of the first things the new self-installed leaders do when in power is take control of the radio and tv channels, even before they grab full control of the military. Its that crucial.
Remember how G.W. stole the presidency; twice? Yeah, the media announced his winning before all votes had been tabulated... You remember the story? Or maybe you believe that he really won? In any case, the majority of the people in the US and on this planet can't be at the Democratic party house or Republican, or coutning polls, so the only truth we know is what the television tells us. And of course the internet ;)
So now here is Barack Obama. The dude is killing it. If media and "the powers that be" don't cheat, he's going to win. We all know that. But you can guess who is going to be the main proponent pushing the engine to make sure he loses... Stay tuned.
I think a lot of them are pushing what they believe in so hard that they fudge truth and ignore that they may be making the most obsurd claims ever aka terrorist fist jabs. I believe some of it is the same blindness that people who still support George W. Bush have. They have to support and justify their conservative and/or Republican, etc. views because that is what defines them. These labels they have adapted define and confine their opinions and views. They won't step outside of the box and will do what they can to push their views on others. I feel like some of them do not realise what they are doing because of their limited vision. I disagree with some of their words and actions whole-heartedly and feel they are irresponsibly presenting information that should be heard and recieved as nuetrally and objectively as possible.
Nas's is the man for sure. I love his new record!

Sounds racist to me. Even if they are not prejudiced, they can still do racist things. Racism is pretty institutional and does not rely on individual acts of bigotry. Fox is playing into stereotypes and is pretty much showing a total lack of decency and perpetuating fear, as well as subtly saying that we want Barrack to act more white. Something he pretty much already does because of the realities of demcratic politics.
