Nelly's Having A Hard Time Breaking Back Into The Industry....

The record industry has changed immensely in the four years since Nelly last released an album. There was a point and time where everything he touched turned into Billboard gold, but things are a little different for the latest go round.
His new album has been repeatedly delayed for the last 10 months, and all four singles (and videos) released have failed to generate much interest from the hip hop public. "This post":http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=23215 on XXL poses the question of whether or not the game has passed Nelly by. Is his time up? How many more songs and videos will be released before the album is either scrapped or released with zero interest?
Is he a victim of today's climate, or was his music simply not good enough to sustain a fanbase this long?
Here's the new music he's released thusfar....
Body On Me
Stepped On My J's
Wadsyaname?
Party People w/ Fergie

I think he was concentrating too much on his pimp juice energy drink and clothing line.. ◄
Maybe he was squeezed dry! (of his Pimp Juice - get it?..oh never mind...)
Too much time in board rooms and gyms and not enough in the studio?
Two pimp juice comments in a row, I shoulda seen that comin lol
I think he's praying for a hail mary at this point...nobodys interested in anything he has to say.
But then again, the very same thing happened to 50 cent last year, and his Hail Mary actually worked (I Get Money).
Pimp Juice just sounds vile, whatever that may be. IS it a reference to semen? Is it sweat, dripping off of Nelly? Whatever t is, it defiitely makes me more naseous than thirsty.
The company I used to work for made a deal with Nelly to try to sell PJ drinks and clothes to record stores so I did have the opportunity to drink eau du pimp...It was gross in all formats. The t-shirts were pretty cool..I have a few pix of my boy running around in PJ gear..I remember when Coolio tried to put out a comeback record with us..no dice, and then there was x-clan..only 10 years too late. I loved X-Clan when they came out and so did the guys at Suburban Noize (home of the kottonmouth kings) who wanted to release their record.
They wanted to put out 30,000 records the first week...I told them on the high side they would sell 3000 the first week (I benchmarked it on a Public Enemy comeback record) on the high side. It sold about 1200 the first week. I was right, but I didn't feel good about it! I tried to convince them that an entire generation had passed since their last record but no one would listen.
They couldn't get a hit with akon on there? They should just put t-pain on a song with him, and if it doesn't become a radio and rington hit then they have their answer.
I read an interview with T-Pain a few months ago.
T-Pain originally offered the song "Low" to Nelly, but Nelly turned it down. (t-pain produced the song and wrote the hook)
the song eventually went to Flo-Rida and spent like 2 months as the #1 song in America.....
so to answer your question, Nelly already had his chance to work with T-Pain and he ruined it.
Damn, my case is settled.
I'm surprised it took this long for him to fall off, my four year old's got more skillz.
There is a son called "Bay" on nelly's new album, where Nelly sounds much like people in the Bay Area (Spice 1, Too $hort, E-40), is scheduled to be on the album as well. He said he made the song to show respect to the legends because he grew up listening to that kind of music.
Nelly never was a talented rapper anyway. He was pretty, girls liked him, and he had a few catch songs. I'm surprised his run was as long as it was. But, he was definitely not the guy who could take 4 years off and come back. Nelly, join the cast of a reality show and be happy.
haha. well put.
