Lil Wayne Tops The Charts Again; "A Milli" Vocal Sample Found

Posted about 1 year ago

For the third non consecutive week, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III is the top selling album in America. Wayne's sixth album sold 125,000 units this week, beating out Coldplay's Vida La Viva by a slim margin of 12,000 copies. Tha Carter III is now on the verge of breaking the 2 million mark in terms of album sales.

In more interesting news...

Rap fans may be familiar with how Wayne's "A Milli" song took on a life of it's own an became mind numbingly popular this summer. The track was remixed by numerous artists (Ne-Yo even made a "Milli" remix video before Wayne did).

Up until now, nobody knew where the vocal sample originated from, but thanks to the wonders of YouTube, the source has been located. It's a rare remix of A Tribe Called Quest's "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo". The video below demonstrates how producer Bangladesh created a monster.

So do we know how many copies of Tha Carter III have sold in total thus far?

I was just listening to that track at my friends house right after Pussy, Money, Weed that uses  the Outkast song Jazzy Belle as the main sample.  It seems like a bite, but  think he's just showing respect for the origin of rap from the south.  Either way it starts with the same line too "Oh yes I love her like.."

actually, i DID know the sample was from El Segundo (it came up recently, I think on MOG even), but I hadn't heard anyone break it down like this video did.  Very cool Frost, you rock!
