Grandmaster Flash Releases Autobiography
-
Artist:
Theres no denying the legend of Grandmaster Flash, he pioneered the art of DJ'ing and was the first hip hop artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Obviously, theres ample material to fill a book, considering he's been around to see a form of street music known as hip hop evolve from the corners of New York to a worldwide phenomenon. 'The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats' also chronicles his addiction with drugs and what it took to get his life back on track.
When picking a writing partner for the project, Flash was intially very uncomfortable with exposing his inner thoughts to another man. I thought this was really interesting read, check out one of Flash's quotes.
"The writing process was pretty rough, because when I first got the deal, I had said to them that I would feel more comfortable if I was able to sit down with a women to let my pandora box go. Janet Hill (Senior person at the publishing company) had sat me down and said, 'Flash I need to talk to you about a couple of things. And she had said to me, 'I need to introduce you to somebody who I think will be totally qualified to put this story together in the manner that it needs to be put together.' Believing me, I thought it was going to be a woman. When I got the name David Ritz, 'I'm like I'm not talking to no guy about this, I can't let this go to a guy.' Cause I know what it would entail. Eventually I met him, and when we was talking he immediately started trading his stories to me of where drugs took him. And once he started trading his stories to me, I was able to feel more comfortable with him."
David Ritz has also worked with Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and B.B. King in the past, so Flash's book was certainly in good hands. You can read more about it "HERE":http://www.blackvoices.com/blogs/2008/06/30/10-questions-with-grandmaster-flash/
