WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Two Marvin Gaye Movies In The Works

Posted about 1 year ago
You know you had a kick ass career when two separate movies about your life are released back to back. The first movie will simply be called "Marvin", and will be directed by F. Gary Gray. Gary's most successful film is "The Italian Job", but I will forever know him as the mastermind behind the cult classic that is "Friday"."C. Gaby Mitchell (”Blood Diamond”) is aboard to write the script. Gray said his movie will cover Gaye’s entire life, from his emergence at Motown through his defiance of Berry Gordy to record “What’s Goin’ On” and on up to his death. The lone drawback to the film "Marvin", is that they haven't been granted permission to use any of Marvin Gaye's music in the film. The second movie is being produced by James Gandolfini, you may know him as Tony Soprano. Gandolfini's movie has the rights to use all of Gaye's music *after* he left Motown. So as of now neither film will have all of Marvin's music at their disposal. Unlike Gary Gray's film which chronicles Gaye's entire life, Gandolfini's film will only focus on the declining years.*"The Movie Blog":http://www.themovieblog.com/2008/06/marvin*

  1. Jonh Ingham says A screenwriter friend also told me of a woman living in Monaco who did extensive interviews with Gaye Sr. before he died and wants to sell the rights for both a book and film of Marvin told from dad's point of view. Seems kind of redundant if you can't get any of the Motown music. Or is Berry Gordy playing these guys for suckers?

  2. Scribes4life says "If Marvin was alive now, wow... what would I say to him? Where would I start? How could I explain to him? I know the modern world would probably look strange to him. Would he feel like today had a place for him? Global imprisonment, sickness, indifference. When he said, 'Save the babies,' was we listenin? When he said, 'Mercy, mercy,' did he really know That decades later we'd still be killin folks?" - Mos Def
