MTV & BET Showing "Predatory" Programming???

Posted about 1 year ago
A new study by the Parents Television Council and the Enough is Enough Campaign claims adult content is displayed on MTV & BET every 38 seconds. While these channels certainly go over the line with the imagery they provide during "school hours", the sample size used by the PTC was a little small. The groups analyzed three programs: BET’s “106 and Park”, “Rap City” and MTV’s “Sucker Free”.“What BET and MTV are offering to children on these three programs is full of offensive and vulgar content, the likes of which cannot yet be found on broadcast television. Being in the trenches fighting for better indecency enforcement and cable choice on behalf of millions of American families, we thought we’d seen it all – but even we were taken aback by what we found in the music video programs on MTV and BET that are targeted directly at impressionable children,” PTC President Tim Winter said.Paul Porter of Industry Ears took a harsher tone when expressing his concern with the networks. “Nielsen ratings conclude that more than 40 percent of their audience is under 18. Predators lure kids with candy and BET gets them with the same old ‘slap a hoe’ themes.”You can read the entire report over at *"Hip Hop DX":http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.6765/title.bet-mtv-programming-predatory*

  1. Patrick510 says People can always just not pay for tv(cable), then the option is not there. Why pay to watch commercials? But old people always find new music offensive.

  2. msquared64 says Aside from not paying for cable, it's 2008. Every cable box has the VChip technology and allows for Parents/Guardians to block certain channels. If you don't like what's on there, then block it...

  3. Sturgell says Back in high school me and the fellas would all crowd around the TV after school and watch Jerry Springer. This was back in the day when the showed the fights. People actually got beat down and they didn't cut away or anything. I don't think it messed me up too much, really I don't. Real life messed me up.

  4. MrFrost says Although I think these networks could be more responsible in the shit they show, at the end of the day its up to parents to take an active role in their kids lives. If you let your kid sit in front of the TV all day, the problem isnt with BET, its with you.
