Remy Ma Shooting Trial Opens With Harsh Words

Opening statements in Remy Ma's trial for shooting her former friend kicked off today. Prosecutors wasted no time laying into the rapper, calling her calculating and irresponsible. Remy Ma's lawyers shot back accusing the victim, Makeda Barnes-Joseph of being a celebrity groupie. They also implied she's twisting the chain of events in order to gain money from Remy.
Remy (born Reminisce Smith) was arrested and charged with attempted murder when she allegedly accused Barnes of stealing money, and then shot her in the midsection. The attempted murder charge was eventually reduced to assault, but she still faces up to 25 years in prison. Remy's character came under more fire, after the boyfriend of the victim was assaulted in a club, allegedly at the orders of Remy. That incident caused the judge to tack on witness tampering charges.
This happened in July of last year, and Remy is already in trial. Meanwhile R. Kelly's 'incident' happened in 2002 and not much has happened yet.
