Early Review On Biggie's Biopic Movie Script.... Not Good

After years of delays, the movie Notorious, which is based on the life of Biggie Smalls seems to be in production. New York Magazine got their hands on the script for the film, and their assessment of the film was less than flattering. NY Mag claims the script fails because it tries to stuff his entire life into two hours, rather than focusing on a specific period in his career. Due to the fact that they have so much material to fit in, lots of details are glossed over and quickly ditched to move on to something else.
It opens with his murder and funeral, then doubles back to his Brooklyn childhood. We get a few scenes of Biggie at home, in the classroom, and on the corner dealing crack; there are some rap posters in his bedroom, and we see him fill a rhyme book during a nine-month prison sentence, but there’s no real explanation given for how he went from enthusiastic fan to one of hip-hop’s all-time most revered emcees. Nevertheless, by page 30, he’s signed to Puffy’s label, and from there it’s a mad, tensionless dash to the end of his biography, with all emerging conflicts — his mom’s breast cancer, baby-mama drama, various love triangles (Biggie, Faith Evans, Lil’ Kim; Biggie, Evans, Tupac) — resolved within a scene or two.
Another piece of criticism NY Mag offers, is that the film focuses too much on his success, and not his character. Being a famous rapper with great record sales is an accomplishment, but it's not a truly unique thing. The only thing this film could have done to separate it was to hone in on what made Biggie himself great.
