An RIAA produced video titled In Trial leaked to torrent sites across the internet yesterday, and the contents will either amuse or shock you. The video contained the dangers music piracy has on society, and how to obtain RIAA investigators as expert witnesses. The highlight of the video was the tidbit linking music pirates to people who deal drugs, sell weapons, and participate in terrorist activity.

With the worsening relationship between the music business and the music consumers, it's hard to envision a scenario where it improves anytime soon. Idolator also "featured an interview with Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine":http://idolator.com/358681/a-music+industry-captain-drops-some-science-for-the-masses yesterday that discussed the future of the music business. Jimmy thinks the options that allow fans to discover new music are inadequate... Maybe he's never been to MOG.

  2. NiNiBee says Such a strange video... it's like... they're not speaking a language I recognize regarding music and piracy, and being a musician myself, I feel like I'm well-schooled on this subject... probably more than most. Pirated CD's "with or without" crack cocaine wrapped around 'em? Has anybody ever read or heard about ANYTHING like this kind of thing happening on a regular basis? Or am I living in a file-sharing utopia? It's so strange how this piece of propaganda paints imagery of a seedy, drug dealing, terrorist-cell ridden underworld of music piracy... this video probably represents about 1% of music piracy [at most], if at ALL. So is the point of the video to say, "Watch out parents, torrenting is a 'gateway drug' to dealing CDs with crack and murder when your child's relationship with the hard drive swapping gang goes sour! Oh, and don't forget: atomic bombs CAN be embedded into CDs." It seems like such a bizarre "issue" to suddenly come out... talk about an extreme approach! It's true [as the one commenter on the Idolator post said] this is like the "Reefer Madness video for the torrent generation." Oh wait, I know what this is... PURE. DESPERATION. :o)
