Reggae Star Lucky Dube Murdered In Car Jacking Attempt

International reggae star Lucky Dube was gunned down in South Africa in a carjacking attempt. The singer was shot three times shortly after dropping his children off at their uncle's home in Johannesburg. Police spokesman Eugene Opperman said five suspects were arrested Sunday, and will appear in court today. "They will be appearing at the magistrate court to face various charges which will be specified later," Opperman said.
The suspects range from 31-35 in age, during a raid by police two handguns and a vehicle thought to be used in the murder were recovered. Friends of Dube are saying he was the intended target of an assassination but police believe it was random carjacking gone wrong. Dube recorded more than twenty albums in his career, which began in the 80s by criticizing South Africa's apartheid regime.
