Much like The Bens (remember them, oh man, they were the shit) I have a collection of Matt's. Well, Mat's, Matt's, Matthews, etc. They all share some characteristics. Mr. Wertz was a total accident for me. I went to a Matt Nathanson show (see, I'm going to marry someone named Matt, I swear) and he opened. Holy crap.First off, he was SO personable. Second, the audience knew his music which makes a new artist giddy with anticipation. And he has a line about Colorado in one of his songs (which makes us melt). Third, he rocked my face off. I bought the album, had him sign the jacket (why would you ever sign plastic cases) and went home. He sounded the same...the exact same. It was the best version of everything. The catch? This release seems to be only him. Well, in that I mean Amazon doesn't have it, Best Buy doesn't have it, local shops don't have it, but he's got a big enough buzz that they...should.Anyway, generally sweet male vocals which make most girls melt the second they hear them. Great taste in bridges and vibratos and quite a good ear for pop-esque back beats which feel great. You know when it doesn't matter what the song says but your whole heart moves with each chord progression? He's mastered that. So, MOG lets you hear some of it (click through my music or most recently heard) or just go straight to his website where you can listen to almost all of the new album and most of his old albums. In general this release is rainy day, but I like this release better than his old ones for a few reasons...his old ones were great but there were a few songs I actually deleted as mp3's. I usually refuse to do this but, I just couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't live without almost all of his music, but this is his first solid release. And it's not even really released. Bummer, eh?
